We recently welcomed students from the ‘Film Materiality’ module to look at film-related material in the IOE Archives. Featured were items by Marian Ray, an artist who set up a business after WWII to create educational filmstrips, covering subjects from sound to natural history. @ioe.bsky.social

We had such a great day at our @uclspeccoll.bsky.social event last week celebrating 60 years of small press and mimeography at UCL. Thanks to everyone who came along and got stuck in. www.ucl.ac.uk/library/coll...

An absolute joy to support 'The revolution will be stencilled! Mimeography and Small Press at UCL' today. Small Press fans are so warm, interesting and interested. Well done @uclartlibrarian.bsky.social and Special Collections colleagues. 👏

So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldn’t call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.

Last week we were closed to the public for our annual Collections Development Week. Closing allows us a bit of time to catch up with lots of important jobs like cataloguing and cleaning. We thought we’d let you know what we’ve managed to achieve (we're quite proud of ourselves!!). 🧵 1/8

Friday Martini and snacks #ConfinedCocktails

Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.

Right, Friday Martini with an olive and a twist #ConfinedCocktails. To be soaked up with the results of Japanese baking class.

Medieval Hunting Deaths: A Thread Hunting could be very dangerous (not just for animals) in the Middle Ages. Accidents happened and everyone from kings and earls to lowly peasants could be killed by a stray arrow, a hanging branch or a wild animal defending itself. 🧵7

Making up for dry Saturday with a Classic Martini (5 to 1 ratio) #ConfinedCocktails.

With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.

Fact: by replacing your morning coffee with Green tea, you can lose up to 89% of what little joy you still have left in your life.

It's on a beautiful winter day like this when the majestic low sun shines through your house that you realise you don't dust enough.

Past me thought going to see a film would be a lovely Friday night activity. Current me doesn't want to go out in -6 temperatures in the dark.

Human skull fused with (chain)mail. This soldier died at the Battle of Visby in 1361 on the island of Gotland, Sweden. Researchers believe that the men were buried quickly after battle, and therefore interred with their equipment and armor, which makes this a rich archeological site.
