(also it straight up doesnt ... have a widescreen mode which i just find inexcusable as an "authenticity" thing)

labyrinth of the demon king:
king's field but with a more intimate silent hill-style level design and setting. the vision here was interesting, but the combat is not nearly interesting enough to justify how slow and punishing it is. the world also needs more interesting stuff in it.

wheel world:
open world racer with narrative elements. the demo didn't have much exciting to show (pretty much just the tutorial) so it's hard to say much, but biking is fun and it seems like there will be plenty of side content in the final game. cautiously optimistic.

kill the beat:
vampire survivors but you have to tap to the beat. cool presentation but the rhythm doesn't really enhance the gameplay, and is actually detractive: there is EXTREME desync and there is NO LATENCY CALIBRATION which all rhythm games have offered for a decade. could be fixed though!

is this seat taken:
grid-based logic puzzler! the characters are simple but very cute, and the running plot threads are surprisingly compelling. it's not really for me personally, but i can see a lot of people liking it

null state:
this one hard crashed on me so i didn't get more pictures. it's a game where you damage your opponent by matching up the shape of your tiles with theirs.
gameplay-wise it wasn't that exciting initially, but i was really impressed with the dialogue and worldbuilding.

starless abyss:
a roguelike deckbuilder(!) taking VERY heavy inspiration from cobalt core and into the breach. the combat is very slow paced, but it doesnt really feel like there are tough decisions to make... theres a serious lack of interesting synergies. i was exhausted by the second act.

desktop survivors 98:
vampire survivors BUT you play as a cursor. fun presentation in some areas like weapons but the enemies are very generic. the gameplay isn't very novel or fresh either... bullet heaven let you dodge bullets as a cursor in 2011!

squeakross:
a no frills picross game where each puzzle gives you furniture. very cute, and there's a wide variety of difficulty, but ... the decoration doesn't really pique my interest enough to justify the 100% derivative actual gameplay.

addendum: you can overcharge the robots to kill them... i thought itd just be a thing to avoid, but the game like, encouraged me to do it, and then when i did, it broke out into a... torture minigame?
and this robot was begging me not to kill it while also flirting with me?

battery note:
a visual novel where you can talk to defective robots. robot personalities ranged from decent to straight up bad (see below) but didn't have much interesting to say. you don't actually get much freedom in conversation though, just meaningless dialogue "choices". bad!

voidface:
actually really fun twin-stick boss rush bullet hell! not a lot of content yet but fights seemed VERY well designed with unique gimmicks and creative patterns. difficulty + length of checkpoints might make grinding out wins very repetitive though.

maze mouse:
it was kinda like pacman championship edition survivors? except instead of the really fun part where you hunt and eat all the ghosts you just run away and your weapons happen to kill them. somewhat fun once things get hectic, but a swing and a miss overall.

typinc
this one was really boring and pretty ugly. it was like balatro mechanics except like, with typing? the cards were like "+1 multiplier per capital letter" but you couldnt choose the text so...???
also it had no dynamic scaling so being able to type at 130 wpm just killed all challenge lol

watching a vn and playing a vn are the exact same
this is why they come with the option to literally play themselves
