Sharing this piece from 2020 with my LA reporter friends. Now is a good time to be asking about weapons use policies for less lethal munitions. My good friend @jlevinson.bsky.social did so back during Portland's big protests and there were plenty of misuses happening.

man I got into a Lyft like a week after this happened in the summer of 2020 and the driver told me all about it. I suspect every service worker in Portland was talking about it. (Media couldn't corroborate until much later.) They pissed off an entire city's service industry with no real consequences

I wrote about Los Angeles and violence. newrepublic.com/article/1963...

Just gonna leave this here. www.wweek.com/news/courts/... The worker sued privately. There were protests at the local Marriott. There were no consequences.

The Verge at the ASMEs!!! 🏆

this is perfect

S. Korea had a presidential election today, which made me watch this exit poll countdown from the country's 2018 parliamentary election -- Recapping all the pro-democracy protests over its history. No matter your politics, democracy is worth fighting for. Good night www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPJ9...

setting *everything* else aside, "Vermin were not a problem prior to March 17, 2025" was a very funny line to read in a court doc h/t to @courtwatch.bsky.social for digging up this gem in this week's newsletter (and go subscribe!)

a couple weeks ago I went to a show and saw a random stranger in the row in front of me open up bluesky on their phone

can't put boots on the ground without feet tho
