Go read a book.

I am done with winter.

🚨 Winter Storm Warning issued February 11 at 10:33AM CST until February 12 at 9:00PM CST by NWS St Louis MO 🚨 Additional Details Here.

Popped outside to grab my water bottle from the car and said "holy hell, is it foggy!" Just then the City's NotifySTL alert came through! Great minds, Commissioner. If you haven't already signed up for emergency alerts, here you go! www.stlouis-mo.gov/notifystl/

Recently downloaded the “No Thanks” app to get quick info on the political contributions of the brands and products I buy. You can search for a brand or even scan a barcode. Easy! apps.apple.com/us/app/no-th...

American social media companies write the algorithms that determine what voters read; moderation systems are opaque; political advertising cannot always be tracked. Do European democracies, or any democracies, really have sovereign elections anymore? www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

A grim but essential memory: 80 years ago today Auschwitz was liberated. That there was an Auschwitz to liberate is unspeakably tragic. . . www.history.com/this-day-in-...

It actually is very important that you do things that you take pleasure in, regularly. That is part of how you survive the things that feel like they are going to destroy you.

My husband, a 40-year AIDS survivor, helped organize one of the first AIDS Candlelight Memorials in STL in the late 80's. This past weekend at the Gateway to Pride exhibit at the Missouri History Museum, we saw an original poster with HIS handwriting on it. We held each other tightly and wept.

This came up in my family chat group so I thought I would share the gift link with y'all, too. Why You Might Suddenly Be Following Trump on Instagram and Facebook www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/t...

To my new Bluesky friends (hi @lisadclancy.bsky.social and @kellidunaway.bsky.social 👋) my favorite feed is the Gift Links feed, which bypasses paywalls & gives you access to lots of major news articles. I subscribe to some outlets, but this is access to via gift links: bsky.app/profile/did:...

Nailed it, Kyle. 😅 #AllForCITY

It's really not about leaving the other platforms. It's about bringing people here and giving them more engagement than the other apps. That's what people want. Engagement. Takes nothing to offer it If there is a user on another app that you like, DM them and invite them here. Post and tag me

If you think only billionaires can control social media, You are absolutely wrong. Social media is completely dependent on its users. Think about why you do or did use FB, ThreadsTik tok or Twitter. It's because they have enough users. Take away all the "normies" and they all are worthless

Not all of St. Louis is closed. Soulard is not closed. Hammerstone's is open. Other places will be open as well because the owners and/or staff live in the nabe and just walk downstairs or walk up the unplowed street to work.

During a winter storm, always grateful to live walking-distance to open grocery stores. Donuts make kids extra happy on a snowy morning 🍩. Thanks to all the workers who braved the icy roads!

Perhaps a deeper understanding of social media, and how to use it, is needed. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

His post-presidency was seen by many as a model for future chief executives. Rather than vanish from view or focus on moneymaking, he established the Carter Center to promote peace, combat disease and tackle social inequality. #jimmycarter #carter www.nytimes.com/2024/12/29/u...

This PR case is complex and fascinating. Gift link 🎁

just blurted out in class "yes, you have to cite where you got your info. in a world in which lying loudly is the only thing that seems to get rewarded, citing your sources is an act of resistance" and folks, I really believe that.

I’m trying to strike a balance between staying informed and keeping my sanity.

Bringing my Christmas tradition over from the other site: It's the most wonderful time of the year -- it's #12DaysOfDarleneLove. Darlene Love performing the best Christmas song ever, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", on Letterman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBoSz61shOM

Every time I read the local news and see a teacher who was awarded a $250 grant for her classroom, I understand that she spent hours of her own time applying for it. Writing it. Going through a submission process. For $250. For her classroom…

It’s 22 degrees outside and 2 out of 3 kids have opted for shorts today.

I've been involved in rescue ops here in Tulsa for years, though not nearly as deeply as many of my friends. This is a story worth your time if you love animals. No paywall. wapo.st/3ZGJHgI

Internalize the fact that FDR was a master propagandist and budgeted messaging into every New Deal project. Despite how it should work, great things do not sell themselves.

Does everyone know about Project Gutenberg? E-books for free. The world’s great literature here, with focus on older works for free. Digitized and diligently proofread by thousands of volunteers. Please share.

JOURNALISTS FLOCK TO BLUESKY “We have posts exactly the same on Twitter & on Bluesky & Bluesky is getting 20 times the engagement or more than Twitter. Seeing a social media platform that doesn’t throttle links really makes it clear how badly we were being limited” www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-...

Good luck getting your students to read a book. Or—even worse—a research article.

I’m still sitting in gratitude for you.
