If anyone in the DFW area has room to take in abandoned cat, please DM. I don't even have pics yet but a tenant moved out and left their kitty behind! Will post pics when I get her! I have zero space for another stray, need help!

“Albert Einstein himself thought that the eponymous Einstein ring would be impossible to observe, but the Euclid telescope has picked one up just 600 million light years from Earth.” www.newscientist.com/article/2467...

Thou shalt not spend millions on Super Bowl ads about Jesus when you could’ve used it to feed the hungry.

And so once again, oh America my friend.. And so once again you are fighting us all. And when I ask you why, you raise your sticks and cry and I fall. Oh my friend, how did you come to trade the fiddle for the drum. youtu.be/Xk7sDi3V8xU?...

Is this another Monday distraction from, well, everything? Yes, but *what* a distraction: a jaw-dropping 416 megapixel mosaic of the Andromeda Galaxy! badastronomy.beehiiv.com/p/a-n-d-r-o-... 🧪🔭

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

In today’s history lesson, we are going to read about the Smoot-Hawley tariffs. Back in 1930 another Dipshit (Hoover) thought it would be smart to put tariffs on all imports, because the manufacturers felt they weren’t getting enough of the pie.

Wow! LASCO is a camera on the SOHO space-based solar observatory. It has an occulting disk that blocks the Sun and lets us see fainter material around it. This time-lapse lasts several days, and holy wow that comet!

Well... umm.. it is pretty at least.

Fair question.

Sunrise to the east, moon shining in the west. It's a beautiful morning! Phone camera is garbage but I had to take pics!

I love the moon

HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTT because I am about to be very not normal about these new JWST images!!! These are light echos from a supernova, they look insanely cool, and I’m about to explain the science of why 🔭🧪🧵 (1/n) 📸 (for full thread): NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, Jacob Jencson

Wow, look at this coronal hole! It has grown a bit over the past day and looks a bit more impressive. We may see some faster solar winds at Earth in the next 2-3 days, triggering minor to moderate geomagnetic storming (G1-G2/Kp 5-6). Good chances for mid-latitude aurora!🤞 #heliophysics ☀️

I took some more photos of poor Pepper today. He is so sweet and loving and gentle but nobody has wanted to adopt him just because he looks a little bit scrungly. 😢 Please share with anyone you know in northern Vermont who might be interested! www.hsccvt.org/Cats#sl_embe...

WAKE UP BABE, THE FIRST NEW HUBBLE IMAGE OF 2025 DROPPED!!!

Lovely morning adventure!

Waking up to this in Texas is a rare treat! Love it!

Blanket fort with the kittens, Bakool Ja and Happy. This is how you spend the evenings when it's 20° in Texas.

Great bipartisan legislation idea for the new congress: Pass universal free breakfast and lunch in public schools. It would cost less than one percent of what the federal government spends on education. No hungry kids. No stigma. Higher morale. Better grades. It's a no-brainer.

Happy perihelion! At 13:28 UTC, Earth reached its closest point to the sun in its orbit, a mere 147,104,000 million km distant, about 1.5% closer than average. It's all uphill now until aphelion in July.

Absolute truth. Every single time.

Going to say this.. 'gravitic propulsion' is, at best, purely theoretical. At worst, it's flat earth level nonsense. Just don't.

Sadly true.

The moon and Venus from my backyard. Just stunning.

Not sure how mass deportations will stop a guy born in Texas from blowing up a Cybertruck. Is it too late to deport the guy who invented the Cybertruck?

Listening to the press conference from New Orleans. What is wrong with these people?? Self-serving, CYA, politically charged, not-my-fault bullshit spewing from every single person. From Kirkpatrick to Kennedy and everyone in between - listening to them is making me feel nauseous. GROSS.

Have a happy and safe New Year's Eve!

A young Navy submarine officer named James “Jimmy” Carter helped avert a nuclear disaster in 1952. The only president to have graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, he was too honest for Americans who prefer unqualified demagogues, actors, & reality TV stars #RIPJimmyCarter youtu.be/YvnESse2qJA?...

Can we just admit that we NEED immigrants for our economy to run, from agriculture to high tech? We’re a goddamn nation of immigrants, aren’t we? Let’s be proud of our immigrant heritage!

A new claim that dark energy isn’t necessary, we just need to properly account for inhomogeneities in the universe. Maybe. But his idea has been discussed for a long time - David Wiltshire, an author here, has been pushing it for 20 years, and others have also looked at it. (1/n)

FFXIV. Haurchefant's death, most of EW, but the hardest was the death of Count Edmont de Fortemps' VA. Many many of us stood silent vigil in Ishgard to mourn his passing and celebrate his life and art. I'll never forget, even though a smile better suits a hero.

Happy the cat, enjoying her new mixing bowl set where she can perch and watch her new coffee pot working. Silly girl!

Boxing Day lunch - husband always makes split pea and ham soup with fresh bread! Sooo good.

A Christmas story... Our neighbors have 2 young children who have a very rough life. Their parents are very, umm.. problematic, we'll call it. I've done what I could to try to help over the last year or so, to no avail. They had no plans for Christmas, no tree, no decorations, no gifts. Cont...

This was one of the best Christmas days we've had in many years! Having our son-in-law with us made it perfect. May this energy stay with us for the whole new year and many more!

Three years ago, the JWST was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket! 🎉 To celebrate this anniversary, here's my all-time JWST observation that I processed: the star forming region N79 in the LMC! 🔭 HD: flic.kr/p/2qBBQQW

Merry Christmas! I'm awake, enjoying some caffeine and quiet before the kids wake up and unleash the chaos haha
