This is true for all freelance writing careers. We all earn less every year; rates are lower now than they were when I started writing in the mid-90s.

So today is release day. I Think I'm in Love with an Alien is out in the world. It feels awkward to talk about this book with... *gestures at everything* but if I don't talk about it, you won't know about it. It's a love letter to fandom, to science fiction fantasy conventions, to cosplay.

We spent last weekend in Margate at Rewind by the Sea. As the first notes of Heaven 17's first track sounded out, I lookd over at @marypcbuk.bsky.social and said, "They're going straight there." Reader: they went there, hard.

Starting to send epub beta files out for Bones & Betrayals. If you’re a reviewer and would love to read this funny fantasy whodunnit written by myself and @ericamarks.bsky.social — then please do get it touch!

The @github.com Summerfest swag arrived this morning. The wallet pouch has an excellent lining… Hey @martin.social, you should get some printed up at Spoonflower or similar for GitHub-using crafters!

Recent Reads: Victory Disc. The third of Andrew Cartmel's Vinyl Detective mysteries takes us into the world of the 78 and WWII dance big bands. A commission to track down the recordings of an RAF band leads to murders old and new, as well as a neo-Nazi conspiracy. The past has a way of coming back.

A weekend of 80s music and it reminds me just how political it was; so many of the anti-Thatcher and Reagan lyrics are relevant for today. From Heaven 17 to Nik Kershaw to Midge Ure and more.
