For when you have Maines in hairball season. Which is now.

Welcome to the DAKKA LOUNGE!

Well played, Metro. Well played.

Which raises a new version of Roko's Basilisk: Rothko's Basilisk. The AI from the future is demanding pictures that are blocks of solid colour or it will destroy all the impressionists. Will you make them for it? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Also yes I am STILL doing copyedits on the ms but it's up for preorder (SORRY JEN SORRY SORRY I'm a little burnt-out and overwhelmed right now) so: THE FIRST THOUSAND TREES is the third book in the ANNUAL MIGRATIONS OF CLOUDS trilogy! Cover illo by Veronica Park! ecwpress.com/products/fir...

It is easy being green. Especially with bokeh. A feral ring-necked parakeet sits over a nest hole in Wandsworth Park. #birds #birding #putney

New Song - Gator Days

The Selfie Boat. If it was you taking a selfie in a boat near Putney on Sunday morning, here, have the picture I took of you all! You looked like you were having fun... #putney

Big Tufted Duck Energy on the Wandle Delta. This bird is clearly the reason for anatidaephobia. #birds #birding

Yellow-legged gulls were only recognised as a distinct species relatively recently, but they're probably the most common large gull on my bit of the Thames and the Wandle. Here's one flying over the delta at low tide. #birds #birding

Clouts may now be cast. Hawthorn blossom on the Spit in the Wandle Delta.

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon

Monday gulls. Yellow-legged gulls flying down the Wandle Delta, on a sunny Sunday morning. #birds #birding #gulls

It’s going to be 25C in London next week, so I sat on the roof and @marypcbuk.bsky.social got out the clippers…

You know the world is screwed up when even @oglaf.bsky.social gets political.

Recent Reads: Covers. This collection of Terry Moore's comic art needs very few words, bringing together the covers for all his self-published works, from Strangers in Paradise to Serial. It's thirty years of work in one gorgeously over-sized book, charting a career and so many great stories.

Down in Wandsworth Park a feral parrot was sitting by its nest hole. Green in the green light of the plane tree avenue. #birds #birding

It worked out well. There's more of me in the online version than in the print version.

There were rice crackers in our wasabi powder tonight.

Movie you've watched more than six times using gifs. ("Hard mode" no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LoTR)

In Our Time remains, to me, proof that humans can be great. That our drive to learn is the pinnacle of our achievement. It is the reason we exist.

Watched an early Leverage Redemption last night, where someone had written a book pretending to be Nate. Amusingly the actor who played "The Mastermind" was the same one who played Woz in Pirates of Silicon Valley, so a bit of a reunion there with Noah Wyle's Mr Wilson...

Marvellous review of Shroud from Locus magazine.

Remember, status.bsky.app is a thing.

Come for the Elon Musk/Harlan Ellison fight, stay for Dean doing math.

WicDiv is just so good, so having it all in one place is a no-brainer.
