This pathway, which involves the proteins WNT5A and ROR2, initiates a chain of events, mainly activation of JNK signalling, resulting in synapse damage. Blocking this pathway can prevent this damage in iPSC-derived cortical neurons. #Wnt #Alzheimer's

This idea has significant implications because cells not expressing a specific receptor can still transduce the signal even if they receive a receptor. Cytonemes facilitate the exchange of receptors. This idea extends our concept of competence and adds a new level of cellular plasticity. 3/3

This ability to react is transient (until receptor degradation). We refer to such a feature as adoptive competence - in contrast to the "normal" innate competence of cells to perceive and transduce a specific signal. Translated to Emil Fischer’s concept of “key and lock”. 🤯 2/3

That’s correct. The definition of immigration is „the action of coming to live PERMANENTLY in a foreign country“, which does not apply to students staying for 3-4 years before returning to their home countries.
