One option: steer customers directly to a POD store site instead of Amazon. Lulu isn't perfect by any stretch, but they only charge me ca. 3$ for distribution vs. $15 at Amazon for a ca. 300-page US Trade-sized novel. You're pretty much covering everyone's 'free' shipping at Amazon.

I've self-published two novels in a space opera series, one semi post-apocalyptic novel about future North America, and an anthology of sci-fi sort stories and novellas, some new and some published in other anthologiea. It would be great to meet other sci-fi authors.
