I haven't said anything about Biden? And yes, Meta is also exploitative. And X/Twitter.
comment in response to

That's not why they banned it, even if you disagree with the actual reasons they did. And that's a bit concerning, that a exploitative social media app has that significance for you.

They didn't really move heaven and earth, though. A bill was introduced and a significant majority of reps and senators agreed, so it passed easily. That's not the same for those issues you listed.

What stops dealerships from price-fixing?

Do you think Congress has veto-proof level agreement on those issues?

Such as?

Worse than that. He thinks it's "contempt for taxpayers" to think taxpayers won't like gutting Social Security. As if he's some oracle who decides what taxpayers want and if you disagree it's because you hold them in contempt. Just lol.

It passed with a veto-proof majority, and him not enforcing it means nothing if Apple and Google remove it from their app stores.
comment in response to

Not much Trump can do about it since Apple and Google will remove it from their app stores anyway.

I'm not opposed to the ban, but the question of whether to divest or simply shut up shop is more complex. If they sold the US operation it would effectively immediately create a direct competitor in their other markets. I can understand why shuttering could be preferable.

Kinda feels like NZ media is also stuck in small town mode. Can't resist writing a story every time people whine about road works.

I don't recall anything myself, which is why I asked. Wouldn't surprise me if Clarkson is one, but May has always been a bit more chill, I think.

Hmm, silly thing to tweet, but not sure I'd conclude he's a phobe just because of that.

I agree there's institutional issues but this is pretty much verbatim from the GPS. They didn't do this during the previous government. That's not by accident.

I mean, it's not really NZTA, it's central government policy.

Yeah, no reason to do their work for them!

Yep. Inducting new and junior workers is really tough in a remote work environment. If team culture is important, it's basically non-existent if no in person element is involved.

Abolishing Eke Panuku seems idiotic, though.

David Weigel had a good point about this. Enough voters saw him as "president low prices" without any demand that it be explained and with most of COVID being memory-holed.

Agree. Immediate red flag since the data at this point is so poor. Remarkable how people know that exit polling is poor and yet everyone immediately rush to it and use it anyway. Gah!

Nothing in my comment says anything about how all Arab Americans would vote. I was referring very specifically to a sub set of voters and activists who play this performative rhetorical game where they pretend their votes are actually easily gettable, knowing full well they aren't voting for her.

Again, yes I know - that's been my argument. Elections offer choices and outcomes. The choices are unlikely to ever fall exactly where everyone wants, but the outcomes are shaped by those choices regardless. To me it's pretty clear that Trump and Republicans are worse than Harris on every topic.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, man... That's what I'm arguing for. You don't have to agree with them on everything to understand they're an order of magnitude better than Trump and Republicans.
comment in response to
post
Did you see he's also enthusiastically supporting Harris in the election, despite disagreeing with her on this one issue?
comment in response to
post
I don't think it's okay, but I also think you're over simplifying a complex situation. It's not a new conflict.
Broadly, I think Bernie Sanders is correct on this.

Nah, I think it's pretty clear Israel is committing egregious war crimes, even if it doesn't qualify as genocide. Appalling conduct, including in the West Bank, where they can't even use the "but Hamas" excuse.

Big mystery why Harris isn't running on this platform.
comment in response to
post
Come next week, it'll be known whether it's him or Harris that'll be in the Oval Office from January. The *only* way to stop it from being him, is voting *for* Harris.
Sucks that those are the options, and it sucks that the electoral college is in place, but that's unfortunately reality.

Are you suggesting they are currently killing Palestinians at their *maximum* capacity?
comment in response to

What do you think Trump's position on UNRWA is?
comment in response to
post
Do you think Israel could kill more Palestinians if they wanted to?
comment in response to
post
Neither is going to implement an arms embargo. Given that, do you think Trump will be better or worse for Palestinians than Harris? Do you think it cannot be worse for Palestinians than the current situation?
comment in response to
post
You don't? You think he'll be better for Palestinians?
comment in response to
post
Nothing wrong with being concerned or disagreeing stridently with current policy, of course. The point I'm making is that it can absolutely be worse, and will very likely be worse, under a Trump administration. The Trump campaign has consistently said Biden has been *too restrictive* on Israel.
comment in response to
post
I'm finding it hard to conclude that's sincerely what it is, given you want to help the guy who is substantially worse on this issue win.
comment in response to
post
And yet, this is who you folks want to win instead. It'll never make sense to me.

What...? That's not what the article says, and clearly that's not who she met with, and Kat didn't say "meet with me if you want to win", which would have been pretty funny if she did.

So... Talking to an Arab person is not enough to make her win? Interesting.

Yeah, she did. And apparently that wasn't enough, despite what Kat Abu said. Fascinating. Who could ever have predicted that?
comment in response to

Do you think "arguing with the white men who vote for Trump" will help her win?
Plus, she's already met with them. You reckon she's going to win?
