"At least six people were killed in police actions in Canada in March 2025. This means at least 27 people have been killed so far this year." mediacoop.ca/node/119285 #cdnpoli

I'm not generally one to care much for gossip about those wielding state power, whatever the state...but I really wonder what the high-level, closed-door conversations in Beijing are like these days re. the US. Are they amused? Horrified? Smug? Bewildered?

So are there any knowledgeable people – including any who are enthusiastically pro-capitalist, but excluding those who have pledged devotion to the regime – who argue that there's any chance at all that the tariffs announced today will do what the regime is publically claiming?

"This is not the gesture of a man who is impervious to protests. It is the response of an oligarch who is being driven visibly insane by them." - @timothypmurphy.bsky.social Keep going, #teslatakedown. The Snowflake in Chief is melting as we bring the heat. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

"[F]aced with the threat of annexation from the United States, and the intensified shift to the right in Canadian politics ... Canadians are now desperately in need of the knowledge of these histories of protest and activism." canadiandimension.com/articles/vie... #cdnpoli

Okay, sure, vote for the lesser evil...I can see the logic for making that decision, at least in some places. But getting so caught up that you refuse to see and name the harms that the lesser evil is itself also promising to do is putting all of us at risk. #cdnpoli

Mark Carney announces a $35B plan to build at least 500,000 homes per year. The plan cites Wartime Housing as the inspiration, but says NOTHING about whether the new homes will be social housing (as Wartime units were) or private.

Remembering Cevranna Abdi, a Black trans woman who died after an interaction with #HamOnt police in 2003...witnesses reported that "fatigued officers dragged Abdi partway down the stairs, letting go of her legs while still supporting her upper body, face down." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Mark Carney can't even mention trans people on Trans Day of Visibility. Just so you know what we're in for.

The call to Canadian political party leaders from the CEOs of eight energy companies to declare "key projects" in "the national interest" could put at risk the lives of Indigenous land defenders opposed to megaprojects on their territories: pbicanada.org/2025/03/30/c... #PBIaccompanies

This 'I take the climate crisis seriously, but we should build yet another pipeline' sh** is so fracking weird. Don't these people, who hate Trump and Pee Pee, see how this normalizes batshit crazy narratives? #cdnpoli

Canada is supplying Israel with arms despite explicit claims to the contrary and against its commitments to international law such as it exists. www.ploughshares.ca/publications...

Breaking: charges have been withdrawn for three more of the "Indigo 11." They were pursuing a legal action against the police, and the crown withdrew the charges. Press conference about to start. More to come.

Sadly, it feels like an important time to be learning about histories of anti-fascist resistance. So check out this graphic history collection from Between the Lines Books -- support it on KickStarter to reserve a copy in advance. www.kickstarter.com/projects/139...

Almost all unions in the United States took a stance for Palestine this past year, including roofers, auto workers, teamsters, hospitality workers, Machine Workers, Postal Workers, Flight attendants, etc. NOT ONE HOLLYWOOD UNION JOINED THEM. I keep saying this but people act like it's no biggie

The real story is that unnamed unknown Yemeni children died as a result of that cringe Signal disaster. Somehow that seems to be lost in all this.

This is a perfect example of how the elites around the Liberals are going to use the Trump tariffs and the lure of nationalism to get away with things they wanted to do anyway that will harm communities, the environment, and Indigenous rights: www.mining.com/canada-scrap... #cdnpoli

#HamOnt homeless population 📈 31% in 3 years and the 2 leading federal parties laud Martin/Chretien years and want to get government even less involved with housing. 😬

The NDP is planning land theft.

Israeli settlers beat up one of the Palestinian co-directors of the Oscar-winning film “No Other Land” in the occupied West Bank on Monday, and he was then detained by the Israeli military, activists on the scene said.

"You can't criticize the better candidate during an election!" Of course we can. Grow the fuck up. They're politicians, not children. Just because someone is better than their opponent doesn't make them above criticism, and if they don't want to be criticized, it's on them to be less criticizable.

So what exactly is the US state gaining by extending (just a small fraction, but a growing fraction) of the border terror it has long applied to Black and brown people from the Global South to people with Global North citizenships?

If the lesson you take from this current moment is that there is some "return to normal" that you think will happen, I think that you're going to be very disappointed. If you question whether what you were previously living under was ever *normal,* then you're on the right track.

I've spent the past couple of days in various meetings and convenings. People are in motion everywhere. I can't stress enough that you should take every opportunity possible to gather with others (virtually and in person). You will feel more grounded.

Check out this video from The Breach -- in it, migrants and advocates debunk the myths being used by Canadian elites to divide us and to scapegoat migrants for everything from the housing crisis to hospital wait times to unemployment. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRA3... #cdnpoli

Has there been any good (left) writing yet on how capitalist media companies -- not so much news media, but book publishers, entertainment-focused TV/movies, etc. -- are responding to the far-right regime in the US? Or is it, given the length of production pipelines, too soon to know much?

"Together" without a labour Minister on a PM's cabinet, for the first time in over 100 years. 🙄
