I work for a music company and one summer there was a construction crew next door who would play music and one of them was the best whistler I ever heard. I always insisted that guy needed a deal. Happy to hear that quality whistling can be a route to stardom.

It's so very Roberts Court to make a technical ruling that just coincidentally happens to empower a Republican president to do whatever he wants but leaves room to constrain a future Democratic president as the Court sees fit.

With right wing pastors and religious influencers preaching against the “sin” of empathy these days absolutely everything is on the table

It seems that absolutely every topic is now liable to be taken up as core religious doctrine once you get enough right wing pastors and religious influencers riled up about it, such as vaccines.

I have a whole rant about yogurt in the US being relegated to diet food. Full fat yogurt is mana from heaven and so many people have denied themselves for decades.

I recently started myself (normal mode, though). I definitely won’t be hoarding my items until the end for this one.

The Court won’t allow for the smallest of constitutional checks on this admin. Congress is MIA. This is autocracy

I long for the day when society fights for the right of customer service workers to not be forced to self censor

He trashes two genres in particular: disco and tango, and then in addition to old time rock ‘n’ roll he’s cool with blues and funky old soul. So yeah, probably a lot of 50s.
Also, looking at the lyrics, he seems to only rhyme rock ‘n’ roll with soul in several different lines.

Yeah at some point you have to focus on the game in front of you and the story it’s telling as opposed to trying to figure out how it connects to a bunch of different games from 20-30 years ago. There’s going to be sky people but not the same sky people in 4 different other games and that’s okay.

According to advice given to travelers, people throwing a baby at you are trying to distract you so their accomplices can pickpocket you so you should throw it right back at them.

Yeah, in my prior job we had a lot of older people who would respond to literally every email they got and they felt personally obligated to donate money because they were contacted.

I worked doing email support for a nonprofit and they started doing those emails and we got quite a bit of angry responses. But the marketing team said they did well in A-B tests and the fundraising did show results (some of the people angrily complaining about the emails also donated more so…).

I’m still waiting on a single journalist at a paper of record to admit that news cycles are a media invention and not a natural phenomenon.

I'd say ""We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city." is an even bigger story than the Senator.

It does seem like an odd take, given that Noem declared a military occupation of LA with the goal of overthrowing the democratically elected leadership you would think that would be the main story.

"If you don't want the fascists to drag you out of a room, have you considered just not asking questions?"
The typical hard-hitting journalism we've come to expect from NYT. Access journalism has melted their brains so badly they don't even *consider* siding with a less powerful person.

I think about the “reality-based community” statement all the time now. We’re really living in that reality.

Not a Twitter historian but I remember Arab Spring being a major flashpoint (and probably what sparked the resolve of authoritarians to co-opt it)

The fact that they are seemingly unaware of the many waves of “welfare reform” over the past few decades that already imposed work restrictions and whatnot and yet people still believe right now that there are massive amounts of “lazy layabouts” on Medicaid that can be thrown off saving trillions
