Also the thing they don’t reckon with is that even if slavery did end without war, which probably may have happened by the end of the 19th century, why is 30+ years more of slavery of 4+ million people better than the war?

It feels like this person is conflating the founders, many of whom - both enslavers and not - felt it would fade away, with the mid-19th century enslavers who advocated for it vociferously. I teach that shift to middle school kids, it’s a pretty basic part of that era of history.

It seems like another version of the normie “all politicians are bad!” It’s a way to seem like saavy and a critical thinker without having any analysis. Of course there have always been elements of the modern right that were like this - John Birch, Gingrich, Limbaugh - but it’s way worse now

I just talked to @lessig.bsky.social about the new Trump cell phone company. He said this adds to a conflict-of-interest problem "more extreme than anything we’ve seen in the history of the United States government."

Contrary to some people, I don’t think this would be to the detriment of girls either, they are often very frustrated with male peers and would also benefit from that age gap. There’s a reason girls often date boys a grade or two ahead in high school.

Our son will be on the older end (September birthday) and I’m very glad about that, especially since he is diagnosed autistic/ADHD. I’m a middle school teacher as well and I think this would be a great policy overall given the maturity difference and the earlier onset of puberty for girls.

Bailey can make good dishes and take risks, Shuai has the story and the earthy/homey feel, but Tristen can do those things AND elevate to the fancy fancy stuff. You could tell the judges liked Bailey/Shuai’s ideas but they couldn’t just get there yet.

I think it was really only Massimo that could have taken down Tristen. Hope to see him on an all-stars or something.

Bailey did well but it’s gotta be Tristen. He’s been the leader the whole second half.
