Just thinking about the difference between the golden age of The Simpsons vs later - I think one thing that made the former better is the physical comedy. Later seasons have a real obvious lack of physical jokes written in. They rely too heavily on dialogue

Paul said at this party he was standing next to a speaker and said to someone “oh listen to this bit” - but the bit he meant was mixed into the opposite speaker, so they had to walk over to that one. Coz early stereo mixing was ass. Giles’ stereo remix was money.
