That makes a lot of sense!

I'll allow it if we can call a 6-8 episode season a "cours lite."

Mechtober 2021 Day 31: Elmedine | Dragon's Heaven Dragon's Heaven is one of my favorite OVAs, and Kobayashi's spectacular designs are a huge part of that. Elmedine's oversized head, spindly limbs, and small frame are the perfect contast to Shaian, on top of being so cool on his own.

This one will be digest sized again so shipping won’t be insane. Should hopefully get stocked by some shops up there though, too.

Was over at my neighbors house a few months ago and he had a pristine early 2000s era Megatouch set up in his game room. Totally jealous.

Even licensed the Zeta novels in the hopes it’d turn into a novel franchise! I never made the connection between the cover designs but that’s so obvious now that you’ve pointed it out.

Yeah, Forever Winter definitely seems a bit inspired by ABZ.

End of Eva… end of an era.

If you're interested in grabbing a copy of this new collected volume, it seems to be sold out on a lot of Japanese sites. No clue if they're doing a reprint soon. We have a few copies available over on garagekit.club and they'll ship from the US. garagekit.club/products/aci...

There isn't a lot about this series in English (probably because the books were impossible to get except via Modelkasten's site or at events) but I wrote about it on Zimmerit way back in 2016: www.zimmerit.moe/masahiro-ito...

His model kits are also stunning, the texture and paintwork on these still blow my mind.

What stands out to me most about Acid Bufferzone is the shapes and silhouettes of the characters and designs. They’re familiar, but different and a bit otherworldly. Not too surprising from the guy who designed Pyramid Head for the Silent Hill game series.

On its face, Acid Bufferzone is a sort of art and model kit mash up that seems most similar to Kow Yokohama’s Maschinen Krieger but with a post-Soviet flair. That’s no untrue, but there’s a bigger focus on illustration work vs models here.

And maybe I'm seeing patterns where they don't exist, but I wonder if the Nirasawa in the comic is named for Yasushi Nirasawa, the artist who was at one time Makoto Kobayashi's assistant (and who worked on the Dragon's Heaven OVA--which Osamu Kobayashi did mechanical designs for)

Yeah, if we don’t preserve the oral history of the Cream Lemon Dispute of 1989 from those who were there then it could be lost forever
