I'm an unhinged person who holds links awakening as my default favorite Zelda, with maybe Adventure of a link being on the top 5

Maybe it's the social media compression, but it's hard to tell from here haha I have no doubt the fps improvement are super noticable if nothing else though

I consider Zelda II vastly underrated. The difficulty curve is off the charts and too punishing but the bones of the gameplay are amazing. It feels more like an adventure to me than most other Zelda games. A series favorite. And it's not nostalgia. I played it for the first time this decade.

Really? I didn't stick with it, but my take away wasn't "bad game" so much as "this isn't the kind of game I want to play right now" Seemed fine! Nothing to hate on really

Here’s the piece I accidentally deleted! ICYMI, this was my second most recent piece for @unwinnable.com about how nostalgia folds time and space and potential makes us more punitive. My latest piece will be reprinted soon!

I'm just so pleased to have it. I spent hours last month modding multiple versions of FFT - fixing spell slowdown on PSP, patching the WOTL script to the PSX version -- even trying to emulate gamepad controls for the mobile port. None were what I wanted. I'll be happy to play this instead.

I would like the option, but I'm realistic and would rather be happy.

Yeah it's a different look and people are struggling to describe it -- but the distinction you're making is important because I don't think it can be "turned off." That's what those assets look like in this version and at least two previous versions. Turning it off would mean making another set.

To your point I don't think it's a "filter" applied in this game, I think you're right they it's the same base sprites as the PSP and Mobile versions. Looks off to some of us but like I said, it's fine. They're giving us an upgraded PSX version too, after all bsky.app/profile/magi...

I'd love for there to be an option to disable it, but I don't expect that, and I'll get over it for the love of simply HAVING THE GAME AVAILABLE WITH MODERN CONTROLS. Like seriously, the definite edition of the game was previously mobile device touchacreen only! This is such a gift.

I think the interface, the field, and all of that looks great! I think there is some fair criticism about the characters. The same blending / filter thing happening was also in Tactics Ogre: Reborn, and looks blurry to some But I'm more happy to have the remaster than I'm annoyed about this choice

Like it has this xbox 360 texture sheen? Does that make sense?

something about the gameplay looks... wet? I can't place my finger on it.

devils choice: FFT remaster or Something Chrono Trigger that doesn't suck

Sometimes later, after the thrill of anger wears off, a pit of regret will grow in his stomach as he struggles to get a replacement Switch 2 for his cancellation. It will fester there, in his gut. And it will be good.

I actually wasn't interested in more Mario kart until I saw it was open world. But that's not like a system seller to me that's just like, "oh that'll be fun to dick around in for a little bit" Like The system just doesn't have killer app vibes

There just wasn't any surprise, and the software looks fine, but not "breath of the wild oh my gosh I don't want to miss out on this." Donkey Kong looks fun. It looks like it'll also be fun in a year or two when I get around to it and have more time and money. I can only guess that feel is common

My eyeballs go straight to FFII, though I that could be because I recently went to the store to trade for a copy, and the shop sold it 20 min before I got there! I'm playing Chrono Trigger in Japanese on SFC right now and enjoying it a lot ...but I officially vote for Robotrek.

Nevermind. Still not over discovering you were a part of the pastiche of webcomics influencing me in high school, which reminds me how long high school was which I dislike. I mean I AM happy about it but whoa dude

This applies to a lot of things. Very few things will be universally high quality, but the viewer always has the power to focus on what they enjoy rather than what they dislike. Hating stuff is boring. Sharing what you like is interesting. Don't be boring.

I feel like my relationship with Star Wars drastically improved when I adopted the philosophy of "Star Wars isn't supposed to be 'good,' just fun." Every part of it is "bad" in its own way, and every part is fun and meaningful in other ways. You're not supposed to get hung up on it.

It sounds like if those systems were online he likely would not have made the choice to try and check the weather manually anyway. He still made a mistake, but if the nonoperative systems were working he would have had less "reason" to make that mistake.

This game is so good. I wish they localized the sequel

.... And I did play through this on PC just a year ago, but I probably wouldn't thinking about it I was more focused on seeing how the PC port stood up to scrutiny

...and I've been noticing spots like that all over. Just carefully placed fights that you can pretty easily beat in one round or less right before big moments. It really makes me wonder how many fights I skipped as a kid

I played this way too. I was eager to see the next part of the story and I wouldn't level up -- I'm doing it now a bit too, but I'm finding groups of enemies very clearly intended for quick XP catch up. Like, the bats right before magus. One cyclone and 400xp, repeatable until you can beat Magus.

As a kid I saw the Battletoads pilot actually broadcast at my grandma's house. They were teenagers who screamed "LETS GET WARTS" to transform into Battletoads. I thought about it for years.

This rings true -- I like the original trilogy as a kid, but what I really loved about Star Wars was expanded universe novels, the toy spaceships, and the video games.
