@strangestquiet.bsky.social !!!!

I get students sometimes complimenting me on my "organized files" on my computer. This is nothing fancy, just folders and versioning on file names. What are they doing? Everything goes to downloads (or an unfoldered cloud drive) and they just use search to try and find everything 🥲

Today's consulting job: Multiple imputation in linear mixed models, my mortal enemy. First set of imputations needs a longer burn-in time, so gotta leave it overnight again. Really puts in perspective how nice it is to get results instantly with a regular linear regression in R.

Does anyone know of a generalist repository for storing undergraduate honours theses? Something like psyarxiv, but for finished undergrad theses? I could have sworn there was one, but I can't seem to find it. I'd like students to archive their theses for posterity.

I had 3 different requests (from different people!) for data and methodological details on papers that were over 10 years old this week for some reason. Thank god past me archives literally everything about research projects. Never throw anything out in academia.

I've come to suspect that peer review generally makes papers regress to the mean in quality. It improves bad papers, and usually makes good papers a little worse, on average. I suppose that is the only real possible outcome when reviewers are semi-random

Turns out the world can give me a little treat sometimes

Let this be a warning to you all: nobody steals my charts and gets to be Prime Minister of Canada

Today is going to be a full work day of fixing my dumb mistakes in the past. Some days just be like that I guess, past me screwed over present-day me by not paying close enough attention to detail
