AI real talk. We (humanity) are moving full speed ahead at building AI agents for war that can create a runaway missile crisis of mutually assured destruction globally. Is the option of not allowing AI agents to deploy missiles already off the table, or is that still up for discussion?

“Using AI” is the new “I was just following orders.” www.axios.com/2025/03/06/s...

What a front cover...

Dozens of people and institutions are suing. It remains to be seen whether judges will determine that DOGE’s access to data adversely affects people. Judges should recognize how people are disempowered through #privacy loses. www.wired.com/story/privac...

“If you’re running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you.” - JD Vance, Munich, February 2024.

Respect to President Zelens’kyi for going on Fox and saying sensible things at a time when that is rare.

It’s nice how they’ve replicated the middle school dynamic of the insecure bully and his sniveling sidekick picking on someone surrounded by a circle of scared little boys who also try to talk shit so the bully doesn’t come after them. Or as the right calls it, “masculinity.”

HAYES: “The United States siding with Putin against democratic allies will have massive consequences for global politics for decades to come.”

Putin Is Ready to Carve Up the World. Trump Just Handed Him the Knife. Great article by M. Gessen and a reminder that for Putin Yalta (1945) "remains the only legitimate framework for European borders and security." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/28/o...

Maybe Ukraine should just sign that prepared minerals deal with the EU now?! With more trustworthy and stable partners. #standwithukraine

Here I react to the shameful encounter between American leaders and media and the Ukrainian president. No doubt there were more, but I saw five failures on our side: of hospitality, decency, democracy, strategy, and independence. Please watch and share. snyder.substack.com/p/five-failu...

Zelensky saying "thank you" to the leaders who #standwithukraine

Nikita Krushchev 1956: “We will take America without firing a shot. We do not have to invade the US. We will destroy you from within.” 🤔

Wow, if this is how Trump intents to negotiate a "peace deal within 24h" for Putins "3 day war" well... then I hope this oval office show serves as the last wake up call for Europe. #standwithukraine

This short video on the false promise of using AI for climate is brilliant. The speaker worked years at Microsoft and resigned over the AI's broken promise. It's only 5 minutes, but a high quality 5 minutes:

Welcome to the 2025 version of "Data doesn't lie. People do." Or as the saying goes: "The only statistics you can trust are those you falsified yourself."

AI can never replace civil servants (morally, politically, democratically). Civil servants are moral agents who can be held accountable; their salary is paid by citizens and they owe their loyalty to citizens. AI works for companies; it has been built for profit. #AIEthics

In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States for $7.2 million. Seems like now is a good time to renegotiate and rename some of the Far Eastern territories on the map. The capital of Russian America will be renamed Muskow.

Question: Who watches the sysadmins with root access to the entire American population? At this point the answer is: no one anymore. Good NYTimes article about how Musk and the DOGEbags are exploiting and executing an insider threat. #privacyispower www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/o...

What’s really going on with campus-wide AI adoption is a mix of virtue signaling and panic purchasing. Universities aren’t paying for AI—they’re paying for the illusion of control. open.substack.com/pub/marcwatk...

Thank you Sanna Marin! Straight to the point.

@janboehm.bsky.social explains the situation in Germany before the general election this weekend + you can learn some beautiful long German words... nyti.ms/3Qoe1r1

Creating a participatory authoritarian state and Gamifying the destruction of government and democracy sure is something else.

Holy shit this cartoon.

In irony too funny for words, Anthropic asks that you please don’t use AI in your job application. No, really! open.substack.com/pub/garymarc...

NASA did a feature on me last year. It was up this weekend but now when you click on the link you get a 404 message.

USAID’s website has been deleted, all that is left is a note saying all personnel are now on administrative leave and personnel outside the US are to be brought home. Completely illegal, no act of congress or even executive order was signed to dismantle the agency

So many people can’t find work because they haven’t killed the right person.

“Actually it’s good that a bunch of teenagers are unilaterally firing thousands of government employees because they have ChatGPT” i can’t get over how unfathomably stupid the average SF venture capitalist is

@wired.com has identified six young men between 19 and 24 playing key roles at Musk's DOGE. "... this feels like a hostile takeover of the machinery of governments by the richest man in the world.”

DeepSeek hot take: The emperor still has no clothes, but it's very distressing to the emperor that their non-clothes can be made so much more cheaply.
