Maybe less about misunderstanding — more so about agreement. It was barely enforced and probably ineffectual. It does raise a 1st amendment discussion. I'm of the mindset of expansion and enforcement leading to ethical journalism. That would look a lot different, but the baseline was there.

He vetoed the single most important act serving in the public interest. If he hadn't vetoed the Fairness Doctrine, then Neoliberalism and Illiberalism probably would not have taken root.
