There’s a conversation here about who gets to own sports teams but let’s not pretend anyone but perhaps 2-3 owners actually can’t afford it

Most “small market” owners want the tax and stadium incentives associated with the ownership as a public trust model while acting like a profit obsessed small business tyrant instead of a public trustee. The answer is simple: sell the team to someone who will act as the latter.

For an actual comment to his point, the revenue for the Mets is small market level right now because Cohen is stuck in an unfavorable local TV rights deal and it just…doesn’t matter…

(if you want to make a case for Demetrio Crisantes or Brody Hopkins or Jonah Tong they're the next best non-2024 draftees in the pool, but I don't think they're relevant compared to the top 7 first-years)

this obviously happened on X, The Everything App over the last half-decade too and mostly I think COVID broke everyone's brains honestly

a sign of a healthy social engagement environment is when politically interested and motivated people are encouraged not to post on political topics because the most engaged users on the site are constantly searching to find things to be outraged about even when they largely agree with you

I lost the post because being a somewhat normal person I used the safety tools to remove my posts from the conversation at that point, but yeah

like, someone actually did a big post on how disappointing it was that I was a Trumper who was masquerading in the Baseball Bluesky space and encouraged their followers to block me. Because I said flying was no more or less safe than it was in December.

I posted that perhaps using scaring people about flying to win political points was not in the public interest and got called a fascist, a Trumper, and was accused of using my fame as a baseball writer to condescend on political issues. About the only good thing here is "remove quoted post"

there were no firings of *actual air traffic controllers* as many other news articles noted, it was support staff. There will be attenuated downstream negative impacts of this stuff, but it's going to take months or years, and people like you are preying on anxieties about flying for political gain
comment in response to post
I agree that there will probably be real, attenuated impacts of Trump FAA policies down the line, but people are trying to prey on air travel anxieties to make the regular shit happening seem like short-term impacts also, relevantly: "The firings at the FAA do not include air traffic controllers"
comment in response to post
especially when it's preying on people's already existing fears and anxieties about flying which are largely unfounded

a landing accident in Canada (not yet the 51st state!) where everyone survived despite scary pictures (probably because of all the safety advances in flying!) is not a sign that flying is becoming deadlier under the American president
comment in response to post
you can pick any random year out of here and read about dozens of scary accidents if you want, this stuff just...happens sometimes...

ugh, this sucks, I'm sorry
