So much for elected officials and democracy.

That’s pretty amazing.

I’m sure it’s not too many šŸ˜†

That makes COMPLETE sense to me. šŸ˜† I definitely immediately thought of several.

Read it twice and decided it was silly to keep getting it from the library, so bought a copy *while at book club*.

I think you will also really enjoy Thornhedge! Where Nettle and Bone was reminiscent of a dark fairy tale Thornhedge is a literal dark retelling of Sleeping Beauty as only T Kingfisher could. If you haven’t read A Sorceress Comes To Call you will probably also enjoy that one too!

There are a few books that I always think of when I think of Anne McCaffrey and this is one of them.

Book clubs are awesome!

I just finished that one a few weeks ago—I really enjoyed it as well! Even though it’s much more ā€œrollicking fantasyā€ she still managed to slide in some creepy monsters šŸ˜†

Yes! It’s waiting on my TBR shelf!

Noted! I haven’t read those yet.

Yes, a number of them but certainly not all of them yet! I have a few more older ones already sitting in my TBR. She’s an instabuy for me every time a new one comes out though.

100% agree—Thornhedge was one of the first I picked up but she very quickly became instabuy for me.

Yes! When viewed from 1000ft, there are broad similarities in our journeys. Get closer in, though, and I have not accidentally killed any previous datefriends, nor am I immortal. šŸ˜† Sometimes the story that happens is the story we didn’t know we needed.

I am trying to be patient but it is hard. šŸ˜† I did get a little preview when my character’s bodyguard got her twin’s debrief. I am mostly just stuck on how awesome everyone is and how lucky I was to get to play this game with them.

For a moment on day 3 I thought I’d run out her story a few hours too soon but then everyone else’s drama caught up with her so it landed a nice bittersweet ending with a hopeful tint.

It was a pretty amazing experience! Halfway through day 2 I thought I knew exactly where she was going with an absolutely broken heart after a wonderful screaming/sobbing scene, and then one interaction that afternoon changed everything.

The moment when larp magic took me from playing to find out how my character was going to die/go evil (my loose assumption about her probable direction going in) to giving her a path to self acceptance/validation and independence. Definitely got unexpectedly personal in there!

It was the Mooney Bin Dresden Files 1923. There were 105 players and ~15 staff I believe. They just finished the second run yesterday and I desperately want to hear stories from my character twin for the March run. I’ve never played one that big before and it’s wild how plot ripples around!

Yeah, it’s a damn good quote.

Me, skimming bluesky: wait, wasn’t Emma Goldman one of the Dresden characters….? OH IT’S BETH šŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

Good! Maybe she didn’t actually notice me and I can back away slowly. Seems safer.

….but I am less likely to be crawling, screaming, sobbing, begging my dead girlfriend to forgive me. At least I hope.

Not sure! I miss it—haven’t been to any conventions still since lock down. Only tried to murder myself with a giant larp. šŸ˜†

I keep checking myself but I’m responding in case *you* get a response (so that I’ll know too)!

I have been trying to run this for years and am going to take another shot this summer—hopefully the scheduling will finally work! How was it??
