As Pacific Palisades is burning in California, let’s not forget that a significant number of those wildland firefighters are incarcerated. This fire reminds me a bit of the Jesusita Fire in 2009, a wildfire that I fought while I was in prison.

Is Moose Knuckles 2: Knuckles Deep available on CBC Gem? #Goldenglobes

Tonight's game summary.

So many people who call themselves “tough” are just numbed out, lacking social awareness, and able to dissociate at an expert level. You’re not tough. Your connection to humanity in yourself and others is hanging by a frayed thread. That’s actually extremely fragile.

Brought my husband to Nosferatu and his takeaway was seeing the aftermath of your wife banging a corpse may be a deal breaker marriage-wise. He wasn't a fan. 😬🤣

I want to forward this to every district decision maker.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but when people say that AI is their "thought partner" I wonder how to have a thought partner that cannot think (or feel, or communicate with intention). What appears to be thought is an illusion that only achieves meaning through the human interpreting it.

Hello, yes, I'm giving a talk on January 17 on the ethical use of AI in the college classroom. What's my thesis, you ask? Well, here's my title slide.

In today’s adventures in AI and teaching, I found myself BAFFLED by a student’s bibliography because all of the links in the bibliography went to the articles they referenced in their paper and were real articles, but the citations were completely made up I was confused till I got ChatGPT out

I grew up without a computer in my home until probably grade 10. No internet until end of high school. So...am I just old now? I didn't reject those other technologies. This feels different. Existentially terrifying different.

Teaching NBE courses has been such an opportunity for learning, professional and personal growth but by far the best thing has been reading Katherena Vermette's works. She's on my "buy everything she publishes sight unseen" list. real ones is a beautiful, heartbreaking book. Cannot recommend enough.

Or you can order something for yourself, give it to your husband to wrap, be perimenopausal so your memory is crap, and be genuinely thrilled by it on Christmas morning! I choose #happiness.

100% this. Hate abortion? Support sex ed and contraception. Hate open drug use on the streets? Support rehab program beds.

Same energy as "kids use AI anyway, might as well integrate it in to your program!".

Pssssst… It’s possible to be trauma-responsive AND still have high expectations for behaviour and academics in schools. Thank you for coming to my #EdTalk. #EduSky

I remember reading this when the book came out and thinking "Nah, way too pessimistic". Now the incoming US Health Secretary doesn't think HIV causes AIDS.

#5, for more productive and positive work, i've been doing this series of "living found #poems" called the "state natural area poems" since the pandemic started, out at the most protected areas in #wisconsin; lastest installment: jacobriyeff.com/2024/11/17/s...

Optimist: The cup is 1/2 full Pessimist: The cup is 1/2 empty HS English teacher: The cup represents the unrealized potential our protagonist struggles to fulfill. Also, I have leftover rainbow cups from today's GSA meeting, if anyone wants to grab one.

I really appreciate the work people are doing in articulating the many reasons AI should not be something we embrace in our classrooms. It's helpful to have cogent arguments ready. #AIResistance

Not my 13 year old sharing her Christmas wishlist in a slide deck. 🤣🤣

Publisher: Do you want to put an LLM clause in the copyright statement? Me: Definitely. How specific can we get? Publisher: As specific as you like.

This…this is it. In a nutshell, yes.

📣 New zine!! "A Librarian Against AI; or, I Think AI Should Leave" is a 40-page zine about why we should think twice about using & supporting generative AI. violetbfox.info/against-ai/ #noAI #zines

Looking forward to presenting PD tomorrow on oral communication as the foundation for learning. Always fun to present with @mrshackett305.bsky.social and Tara Armstrong. Giving our #rftloi2025 deck a run through!

I guess we're all here now?
