Yes, tariffs are a tax, but people don't mention often enough that they are a regressive tax. Taxes on consumer goods tax the poor at a higher rate, as basic necessities are a much larger part of their spending. If food goes up by 20%, it is a tax on the poor. Rich people won't even notice.

*headdesk* This has been studied over and over. This guy is just going to tell them the opposite, then they'll reinstate Andrew Wakefield's medical license. 😡🤡🤬

Im so confused what is even the attempted brag here by OpenAI? Even ignoring that this is stupid/worthless/unethical/devoid of meaning/an insult to art itself… haven’t Ghibli AI generating models existed for literal years?!? What is the supposed thing they’ve achieved?!?

I learned this week that you can put our troops' lives in danger, compromise our national security, and violate the Espionage Act. And the government will do nothing. But if you write an editorial for your school newspaper that Trump doesn't like, you will be abducted on the street and disappeared.

And the rest of the DNC is trying to move to the right.

I read this cis woman's account on FB. She's the one who was harassed, and she the one who was fired, even though she told her supervisor immediately. Transphobia hurts everyone.

Was just reading John Quincy Adams' oral arguments before SCOTUS in the Amistad case and this part seems, uh, pretty relevant

This is so terrifying. I can’t even watch it. Like a horror movie

Yup. The author mentioned the deletion setting in the article. No evidence.

Psst. Art should be for everyone. No one should be prohibited having aesthetic experiences. Art is enriching. It is almost a genetic thing: even cave people had paintings on their walls. Little kids learn to write so they can sign their artworks. #Art is a universal language open to all. Be edified.

I love the sin of empathy.

It can't be all doom and gloom. There have to be rays of sunshine sprinkling down on these trying times. Don't stop fighting Just take breaks Somebody somewhere Needs flowers tonight

Lesser Evil popcorn is owned by the father of “Big Balls,” one of the DOGE operatives. Don’t buy that crap.

Amid growing concerns over Big Tech firms aligning with Trump administration policies, people are starting to move their digital lives to services based overseas. Here's what you need to know.

The number of working satellites has soared in the past five years to around 11,000, mostly because of constellations of orbiters that provide Internet connectivity around the globe, but it comes with a series of problems. Nature explores the issues and how scientists are reacting. 🔭 🧪

Please tell people. Please share. Folks don’t know, even those who would care to know.

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

If Trump and Musk were actively trying to kill the American scientific golden goose and chase all the talent and the next Intel and Google into free Europe, this would be a good way to do it.

congratulations to john roberts who is as responsible for the current state of affairs as any single person in the country

I've voted for Newsom, and I think he did a good job during Covid; but he's constantly doing end runs around State workers (we didn't have contract for over three years), and giving these right wingers a platform? The anti-trans stuff?! 😡

Well, if they're not really human, you don't have care about them, right?

😆😂🤣

Yes. This is the death of US biomedical research by weaponizing administrative burden. It’s the GOP playbook— they have long increased admin burden in red states to defund Medicaid, unemployment, and other safety net programs they don’t like. See @donmoyn.bsky.social Now they want to privatize NIH.

Stephen Miller is on TV all day every day trying to explain how district court judges have no authority over POTUS. Stephen Miller also spent the last four years suing Biden in district court. I’m starting to think Stephen Miller isn’t arguing in good faith here. 🙄

Despite it all It's still Moose Monday

For all those people who think “the left got more radical,” this is what the evolution of the GOP has looked like over the past few years.
