Understanding the reasons for the American Revolution is critical to understanding why our current laws are needed. Republicans are trying to overthrow these protections and restore the monarchy. I remember seeing Tea Party members visiting Colonial Williamsburg getting an education on US history.
History and civics really do need to be taught but this would include a whole lot of inconvenient truths that many in power would rather leave out of the curriculum or erase. And they sure are trying.

I went to John Quincy Adams Junior High and never heard the first word about who he was or the Amistad case, despite taking honors US history. Gee I wonder why that was?
us history seems to be taught as a series of presidencies with the occasional sideshow(civil war). jq's presidency is viewed as a road bump on the way to jackson. unfortunate all around really in that even most college intro courses don't delve much deeper.
that whole case just goes to show that for almost the entirety of US history, the judges are the only government body that bothers to obey/enforce the constitution, and even then only sometimes (dred scott happened not too much later, after all)
So, do several other parts of the Declaration of Independence which Adams cites here. I think it would behoove every American to take a few minutes & reread it in its entirety.

I thought it was understood that this was the ultimate end goal of what's going on? They're going to deport "undesirables", yes, even American citizens to foreign prisons. Politicians and judges need to preemptively address this, not wait for them to do it.
This is exactly why due process was put in the 5th amendment. The Bill of Rights, the 1st 10 amendments to the Constitution, were what the Founders considered basic human rights. They were meant to apply to all people.
Reminds me of Dred Scott v. Sandford also, in which the SCOTUS in error denied the right to due process of Black people being held in slavery (regardless of whether they had been living in states where they were by law freed).
