3/ A double win is possible: improve land mining oversight while pausing deep-sea mining until we understand the consequences. Protecting biodiversity should be a priority over expanding resource extraction. Read more: doi.org/10.1038/s441...

2/ Terrestrial mining has a poor track record, but seabed mining isn't a solution—it would open a new frontier of ecosystem destruction. The unknowns about deep-sea biodiversity make it risky, and alternatives like recycling & better mining regulations should be prioritized.
