He sold his soul willingly for power. He knows what he did. He knows he is a puppet and a pawn, and when the shit really hits the fan, he knows it is going to land on him because the administration is already setting him up as a scapegoat. But he goes along with things anyway.

I was half asleep when I heard it, but I think that bill also limits the number of sex toys you can own. You can still own as many guns as you want, though. Sigh.

As a side note, all of the dads in that neighborhood except for the one who was teacher? Died in their 50s or 60s.

Exactly this. I grew up in a blue-collar part of Pittsburgh. Everyone in the neighborhood did hard, back-breaking labor for a living--mechanics, mill workers, construction, etc. Nobody wanted that for their kids. That's why they sacrificed to do it.

It's the cancer researchers from the NIH who are going to be putting the little screws in. Coal miners will just continue to get black lung and cancer like always. Hard to keep the narratives straight. Sigh.

When steel and manufacturing was slowly dying in Western PA, local and state officials saw the writing on the wall and worked together to pivot and train those steel/plant workers for careers in health care and tech. As a result, Western PA weathered the 80s/90s better than other Rust Belt regions.
