"If only we could fit 2100 cars per hour down this corridor without demolishing everything around it, we'd be good!" But you can't "But if we could!" Going in a circle endlessly.

Hey #BikeHFX, I'm spending far too much time today on 'the internet', but it is a treasure trove for #HaliSky Mayor Fillmore's past public positions on #ActiveTransportation #Congestion & #BikeLanes. Use this link to search! openparliament.ca/search/?q=MP... #ZeroVisionFillmore

As a city planner of 25 years, I know instinctively that the way we build our communities, the kind of infrastructure we deploy, will in large measure determine how we face—and whether we win or lose—the battle against climate change". Mayor Fillmore in 2016: www.thecoast.ca/news-opinion... #HaliSky

Why we need better protected bike infrastructure.

According to the mayor, the problem with this image is the disproportionate amount of road space allocated to bicycles.

On the way home from the peninsula today, I got to the lights at Almon and Connaught and there was another person on a bike who’d pulled up in front of the couple of drivers who had queued up so I pulled up beside him and we ended up riding together for a while.

we need to stop decrying right-wing physical violence while dismissing hate speech & disinformation as "opinions." the words and ideas are foundational to action. there should be no space for hate and no tolerance for lies.

Today, I went on a fantastic four-hour ride for micro-mobility – everything smaller than a car and electric. How quiet it was, how little space we needed, how great it feels when a police escort gives you the privilege of free, safe travel that is otherwise only available to cars. Longing4Future.

When Mayor Fillmore campaigned to "meet the moment", I didn't think it meant packpedalling on progress with bike lane installation, albeit progress that was happening at snail's pace. But there's a @davewalker.bsky.social cartoon that meets this moment with #ZeroVisionFillmore

Let me see if I’m understanding this. Biking is physically challenging and scary, so we shouldn’t bother building a bike network that would at least partially solve those issues? Did I understand correctly?

I am willing to bet the folks who oppose bike lanes wouldn't take any form of active transportation, even if it were free. They are probably the same folks who say there's no parking downtown and wouldn't go downtown anyway, if there was endless amounts of parking (there is parking downtown).

Children need to be brave so our mayor can be a coward.

“We’re not Europe” say Halifax suburban councillors as we await the design and registration of our official HRM tartan with the Scottish Registrar of Tartans

"Everyone says they want progress but nobody wants change."

City governments control the things that most impact daily quality of life [often derigatory]

I truly don't think most people realize how powerful it is to be able to shape the physical world. How much of our lives are decided for us by things like design and distance.

Truly love how “I think biking should be safe for people” turns into “Hey idiot how do you think food gets to grocery stores” Brilliant every time.

Damn, staff say it's a a choice between protecting human life or removing 18 parking spots, guess which one staff recommend? 18 parking spots. To bad so sad, human beings of Toronto.

Reading the 2023 vehicle-pedestrian collision summary is infuriating. Drivers are not held accountable for their actions in the same way as pedestrians are. Pedestrian gets hit? They darted. Driver hits a traffic flagger after deliberately ignoring one who told 'em to stop? They're "inattentive"

HRM traffic engineers: We'll make roads safer by making it easier to drive so drivers don't get mad, which will also increase damand for driving. Psychologists: Driving could not be better designed to turn normal people into violent sociopaths behind the wheel. More drivers = more violence

I had a thread about this area already going with 311, so I sent this photo. Just got a reply asking if I’m sure it’s a bike lane, because there is no paint visible in the photo indicating as much. You know, because the cars are parked on top of it.

So much the reality of #hfxbike, though we do have some good councilors fighting for what is right, but we also have some who need a lot more courage and a really shit mayor.

Pedestrians, transit users and cyclists will no longer give their own lives and health up to support shorter journey times for frustrated suburban car commuters. Correspondence circulated to the Mayor and Council yesterday docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Hey, did you know the province of Nova Scotia passed a code of conduct for elected officials in the HRM? Here are some sections of the regulation that I find interesting! Anyone can register a complaint with 311 and have it investigated! It's very easy to do! novascotia.ca/just/regulat...

#BikeHfx and allies, just letting you know that we’ve requested copies of all the written submissions from the public that Andy’s motion generated. We’ll share once they’re available. Apparently it’ll take a while to redact 484 emails!

It's all pretty straightforward from here: Province gives Fillmore Strong Mayor powers Fillmore reveals the bike lane pause was a feint Cars banned in Halifax.

There it is. The first ever Heat Advisory issued in Alaska. This is the first year it has been an option. @alaskawx.bsky.social

There’s a TON of evidence that bigger, higher vehicles are far more likely to kill somone they hit, crushing vital organs & pushing victims under. But never forget, their weight, height & sightlines also make it far more likely that they’ll hit someone in the first place. HT @transenv.bsky.social

THIS IS BIG! Canadian Urbanist & City Planner @brenttoderian.bsky.social collaborates with Paris Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social & City Hall to launch NEW PARIS EXHIBITION on global cities taking climate action! Great for city planning, & for Canadian urbanism! (And he’s CanU’s founding prez, too!)
