We went to Niagara Falls this year and one of the cool things I learned is that at one point the entire area was completely industrialized and shitty and at some point, public demand to restore and maintain the area's original natural beauty won out and it was eventually restored.

Going to his mom's house to have sex is another one of those things like in S1 where Omni-Man, who can easily go to the moon, left the only evidence of his murder on a shelf on his house so his wife could spend the season finding clues.
