Violent goblin wars & giant ravens? This book is it! I enjoyed The Blacktongue Thief much more for humor (this book was just sad) and I wanted way more of the relationship between the queen and Galva. It was nice for the backstory & ravens. The Daughter’s War by Christopher Buehlman #booksky

An entertaining story with a funny (dead) main character and dark fantasy setting. I liked the world building & humor, although the plot was just ok. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much without the incredible audiobook performance. The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djeli Clark #booksky

So excited to read this one. The cover is gorgeous too! A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett #booksky

Great conclusion to the series, I couldn’t stop reading. I did like this one slightly less than the others because it felt less polished in plot, but loved it still. Excellent dark fantasy academia. The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik #booksky

Do you want to read a romance between a woman and a shape shifting monster that wants to lay her eggs in that woman’s body? Look no further! This one was cute, unique, and fun with a nice gory side, would be a good Halloween romance read. Someone you can build a nest in by John Wiswell #booksky

I can appreciate Rickson was an incredible fighter, but my main takeaway from this book is the Gracies were a cultish, sexist, testosterone fueled family. I did appreciate his thoughts on modern Brazilian jiu jitsu and I learned some BJJ history. Breathe: A Life in Flow by Rickson Gracie #booksky

This book felt like a Shakespearean homage as well as a modern day version of a Shakespearean tragedy. It was predictable only in that the ending seemed inevitable. If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio #booksky

While there are weaknesses to this series I’m still absolutely loving it. The MC’s narrative voice is so cynical and the dark academia setting is excellent. The ending was cruel though, make sure you have book 3 ready before finishing. The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik #booksky

The mystery side of this book was a nice whodunnit but its true charm was the cast of elderly quirky characters. I found it heartwarming and funny without being too cliche. Will read the next books in the series for sure. The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman #booksky

Sometimes I do things other than read! Enjoying the beautiful weather with the family and dogs.

Super cool magic system (basically programmable steampunk magic?) and fun characters, but a little predictable and apparently no one working on the book realized terminal velocity is a thing. Still a great read, although I liked The Tainted Cup better. Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett #booksky

Again, not a big nonfiction reader but this one was fun if slightly disturbing. I learned a lot about dead bodies and it was surprisingly funny. I would not recommend eating and reading this at the same time. Stiff: the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. #booksky

I’m not a big Romantasy person but this book was tolerable. Somewhat predictable at times but also had some interesting elements like the magic cards and the whole entity living in your head bit was unique. Not too much smut either. One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

The ultimate fantasy: uninterrupted reading time. 😌

I kept thinking this book was so similar to Mexican Gothic and then the author mentions it in their acknowledgements at the end! An enjoyable retelling of Fall of the House of Usher and quite creepy although I still prefer the original Poe. What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher #booksky #poe

An interesting read, depressing at times, the prose was beautiful and very much like poetry. Not for everyone as it was different in style, yet I enjoyed the glimpse into these Muslim-American sisters’ lives. When we were sisters by Fatima Asghar. #booksky

Kind of disappointed in this one, I love the Expanse so maybe I had too high of expectations? I found the first half thrilling then it dragged. Didn’t enjoy the characters. Might continue the series, we’ll see. The Mercy of Gods by James SA Corey #firstcontact #booksky

If your audiobook doesn’t start with vaguely ominous off-key music then is it even worth listening to? #booksky #audiobooks

Really enjoyed this one although it’s not for the faint of heart. Lots of explicit content, but imo well done. I liked the more traditional depiction of vampires, and the main character was an entertaining narrator. Looking forward to book 2. Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff #booksky #vampire

While it was a little all over the place as far as plot and the Felurian bit was ridiculous, still an excellent book and a highly entertaining read. It’s a shame the series might never get finished. The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss (Kingkiller Chronicles book 2) #booksky

Listened to this one, narrator did a nice job with the snobby voice of the MC- I despised him and his stupid decisions. Enjoyed the world building (clearly a Dune knock off), and the alien culture and language exploration was the reason I kept reading. Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio

A fun quick read if you like darker fantasy with a mythology basis, in this case Poland (think Witcher 3). I was a bit surprised to find it based in modern Chicago, but it works ok. It’s a little too short imo, although did wrap up nicely. When Among Crows by Veronica Roth #fantasy #Poland

I rarely read non fiction but this book was a great read: The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio. The author’s voice is unflinching and presents a very human picture of America’s undocumented people and their daily lives.

Finished Wind and Truth. I enjoyed it, especially the final resolution. Still, some scenes did frustrate me and I think Sanderson needs a new editor as there was a lot of redundancy. Looking forward to books 6-10 #honorisdeadbutillseewhaticando

Currently reading Wind and Truth. No spoilers, I’m only on day 5! This book is a brick. So far it’s decent, in my opinion better than Rhythm of War but not as good as Words of Radiance.
