I finished The Reformatory by @tananarivedue.bsky.social this week. It was a captivating, horrifying, thought provoking read and told an important story. I was so impressed with the level of research that went into it. 5 ⭐️ for sure. #booksky

anyone else have the persistent urge to be flattened under a hydraulic press and/or ran over by a steamroller but like in a therapeutic way?

Just wanna make a blanket shout out to anyone who lost a loved one in January because this month is long and terrible enough without the added grieving. I’m with ya 🩵

Keep your eyes and your heart open. Opportunities to help others will present themselves. Help them. No kindness is too small. Do no harm. You make the world better by living like this.

Current read: Weavers of Alamaxa by Hadeer Elsbai, the second installment in the Alamaxa duology, set in a fantasy world based on Egypt. Weaving is like bending in the ATLA universe, and weavers (along w women) are an oppressed group fighting for their right to exist.

My first read of 2025 was My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante and it was fucking phenomenal. I loved the slice of life in 1940s Italy, the complex characters, and the narrator’s childish perspective. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series! #booksky

Currently reading: The Iliad translated by Emily Wilson. I highly recommend this translation if you are interested in classics but struggle with archaic language. Wilson’s translation flows beautifully and focuses on clarity. Don’t skip the intro/translator’s notes for important context!

Although it’s v important to stay informed, I think rn we also need to take time to focus on things that bring us joy, particularly if they provide enrichment to our lives.
