There are times I think the NYT crossword is trolling the US administration, and today’s Wordle is definitely a secret message to Canadians. I am tickled by the idea of a resistance organized by puzzlers.

I’m heading into my last week of a completely #ungraded (contract or self-evaluated) term) term, and the quality of the work these students have done has blown me away. I see so much more engagement with feedback, more cool risk-taking in their presentations and written work, and better attendance.

It was a challenge at first to boycott all American stuff (and I’m sad not to attend American academic conferences) but it’s getting easier and easier. My one exception: I will buy books by American writers (but not through Amazon).

I’m going into my second-last class on Milton’s Paradise Lost, ridiculously pleased with my redesigned certificates of achievement, suitable for framing, because seriously, it is a massive poem and attn. must be paid. (The header honours my own teacher, Jim Forrest, who always said that about PL.)
