Aye. But it's not like these guys can run hard. Both teams -- and the crowd -- lifeless and try to not pass out.

Like when he is prepping for the scene where Don Fanucci jumps into the truck of stolen dresses in G2 and threatens Vito. RDN wrote words to the effect "Still. Still. Think of your father." in the script. I mean, you could ask him about his dad all day and not get such a deep look into his heart.

Hadn't seen that book. My RDN bio uses the way he builds characters as its spine. His process is clear when you dig into the materials. And given how he tongue-tied he is when asked about these matters, the archive is his most eloquent response. I spent 100s of hours amid that stuff.

For my De Niro bio, I spent weeks going through every bit of paper and ephemera at the Texas archive. His look book for "Casino" consisted of many thick binders of Polaroid photos of suits, shirts, ties, shoes, jewelry, etc. The only thing comparable was his research for tattoos in "Cape Fear."

And I stand as well with the authors who've been left holding IOUs by the failure of their publisher, particularly in the case of a communitarian funding model that seemed built expressly to avert this very situation. Awful state of affairs, and I hope for a satisfying outcome for all affected.

I can see that and empathize. But what I'm talking about -- the actual on-air content, which often has very little to do with sports/sportbiz and so much with the community that supports a club -- is exquisitely-made television. Stories of human-scale redemption through the common good.

It's top-flight, for sure, but a fair bit fluffy, too, and real > fictional for my heartstrings
