@randahl the old "this company is just an innocent headless entity with no humans behind it," excuse. Might work when you are creating obscure Ltds in the Caymans, works less well when you have put your face on your logo at every opportunity and leveraged your brand to get into power.

@randahl exactly. It's impossible not to see the hand of #Putin behind this when you know how influencial #VOA and Radio Free Europe were in the #coldwar era, and continued to play a role in Eastern Europe as Putin sought to revive the #USSR/the Russian empire/both.

1) when you see Sarah Betencourt's track record of #investigativejournalism, you know this is solid reporting https://www.wgbh.org/people/sarah-betancourt
2) if you bear in mind there's now been multiple reports of WHITE Westerners getting illegally & secretly detained by #ICE (i can […]

@xankarn an obvious one would be exile. There are sadly plenty of recent examples with the war in #ukraine & programs like NAUKMA (Toronto, Glasgow, NIessen, Viadrina). https://www.diplomaticourier.com/posts/the-role-of-universities-in-times-of-war.

🧵 3/3: The fact #NoOtherLand, made by 2 #Palestinians & 2 #Israelis, went on to win an #Oscar answers the ‘then what’ question at the end of the film: a model for an #apartheid-free state where #Arabs & #Jews live/work in #peace. A vision shared by an increasing number of #Jews around the […]

🧵 2/3: #NoOtherLand shows the relentless, wanton & systemic destruction of the #WestBank by #Israel, that only an #ethniccleansing project can explain. It becomes quickly overwhelming to watch & I found myself sobbing with feelings of anger & injustice, knowing that I was only catching a […]

More details here: man on #BigBen livestreamed his climb. He is protesting the arrest of the #Filton18, after their action at #Elbit Systems, #Israel’s largest weapons company. https://palestineaction.org/not-guilty-pleas-filton-18/

@schmaker @randahl +1 nah, i think you need to revise your history of student protests, because no threat of retribution has ever stopped students anywhere, on the contrary. Trump clearly having spent zero time on a #university campus to know as much.
In fact, there's a #wikipedia entry on […]

🧵 2/2: in short: legality & political leverage.
The main #EU position is that using #Russian frozen assets would be illegal/undemocratic, as they are 'not ours to use'. Giving them away now could also erode #Ukraine's leverage in negotiating #peace. The emerging position seems to be using […]
