I read this gem in assembly on WBD & I shared a stack of other picture books that highlight the importance of reading the pictures... such rich discussions! I love it when the illustrations are telling an alternative narrative, the humour is right up my street too!

I need some help curating my timeline on here, any tips? I'm not seeing enough lovely edu posts and far too much US politics!

@suchmo83.bsky.social Just finished - found it a really helpful guide to evaluate our current practice & journey to date. I'll be using key chapters & building in the discussion questions in staff meetings. It's very accessible & I am sure will impact teacher development & children's progress! β€οΈπŸ™

I read so many new research journal editions on important topics like writing, reading, teaching & learning, & think of all the missed opportunities for practitioners. We need more reviews of practice, more relationships between researchers & practitioners, co-constructed research questions etc.

I'm not sure what is on the horizon, what a 'writing framework' might look like, how the NC/assessment will be reformed; I'll stay curious. What I am sure about is that the principles, philosophy & strategies in Opening Doors enable you to develop an approach which fosters a LOVE of literature ❀️

πŸ“šβ€οΈ Rapidly adding to my collection and excited to have a catch-up with Bob Cox @openingdoors.bsky.social this week. ✍️ If you are interested in exploring ways to implement a quality text to writing cycle which pitches high but includes all, then #openingdoors is for you. #edusky #excellenceforall

My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday. Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it. >>

*NEW* Blog by HT @shellygeeson.bsky.social on using the @openingdoors.bsky.social principles and strategies to gradually and intentionally nurture young writers who make choices. Inspiring and practical! searchingforexcellence.co.uk/blogs/ #EduSkyPrimary #EduSky

Here we go @edfinch.bsky.social ☺️

Don't miss this if you can get to the Slough area! The incredible Penn Wood School are 'opening doors' twith GDS years 5/6 relevance! See below searchingforexcellence.co.uk/wp-content/u...

If anyone wants to hear about how Co-Headship can work, please get in touch. I'm always happy to share and feel passionately that this model is great for both school and leaders! Always nice to see articles that help promote this πŸ‘‡ features.naht.org.uk/sharing-the-...

"Lots of noise and lots of people talking and sharing and swapping and moving." I really feel we miss the importance of social interaction & building that community of readers & writers. Great article & essential things to consider from Teresa Cremin πŸ‘‡ www.tes.com/magazine/tea...

I had the pleasure of talking with Victoria Johnson recently. I am a living, breathing case study if anyone wants to know how flex &/or PT can work AND in leadership! Feel free to ask how. Great article πŸ‘ www.theguardian.com/education/20...

There are 2 English GSCEs, language & literature. Why don't we have a similar philosophy for maths?

There is clear power and potential in using playful activities alongside established reading for pleasure pedagogies to nurture reading for pleasure in the Early Years, allowing young children to engage with texts on their own terms and in their own ways: ourfp.org/publications...

My brain has buzzed a lot this week. I have spent time talking with children, looking at their writing, talking & planning with teachers, delivering CPD... This part of my job is the best, I love it so much & despite the challenges, this alone makes it all worthwhile πŸ₯°

Bob Cox @openingdoors.bsky.social is here! Definitely a great follow, if you haven't already, do check out the 'Opening Doors' series. Perfect for those interested in developing a more ambitious English curriculum. Our pupil & staff voice are overwhelmingly positive & we're seeing a big impact!

This sums up the challenges that lots of schools are currently facing & there doesn't appear to be any discussion about the complexities & impact of underfunding. It is impossible for leaders to keep their schools afloat in many cases: www.nfer.ac.uk/for-schools/...

Let’s continue to grow this platform in the manner it has started - a wonderfully collegiate, informative, interesting space for educators everywhere. Hurrah! @collegeofteaching.bsky.social @ascl-uk.bsky.social

Assessment & curriculum review call for evidence: I wonder how many responses felt the content of the NC needed slimming down? Looking forward to reading the report, anticipating this will be some time...πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

What makes a reader? What makes a writer? How are we nurturing volitional reading & writing? Some reflective questions we discussed with staff this week... How would you answer these questions and has it made you ponder as much as us?

This is excellent on measuring reading fluency in primary from @fftedudatalab.bsky.social. It’s vital to understand typical reading progression & reliable tools to measure it.

Huge thanks to Professor Jo Tregenza, Professor Debra Myhill & Dr Rebecca Fisher. for capturing the summit discussions on assessment & curriculum reform - it was a very powerful day with a wide range of professionals contributing. A privilege to be part of: englishassociation.ac.uk/summit-on-pr...

Looking for some further specific research, reading, resources around diagnosing specific barriers that some children face when engaging in classroom talk & strategies for challenging these? @realgeoffbarton.bsky.social @claresealy.bsky.social

I'm really looking forward to meeting colleagues at this event where I'll be sharing our schools journey towards more ambitious primary English. The Opening Doors team have been so inspiring & supportive! englishassociation.ac.uk/opening-door...

Not quite finished, but seeing the kids' faces as the artwork for our new library went up today was pure magic! We've transformed this space in the heart of the school πŸ₯°

I'm trying to remain positive, but as an HT & a parent, the frustration bubbles over. It absolutely isn't all about money, it's much more complex & this article highlights lots of key issues. Having said that, we're desperately trying to do our best & the reality is more cash is also needed.
