Authoritarians govern through fear, not legislation. The simple fear of what they would do in certain situations can push even the opposition to capitulate. That’s success for them. We lose when we fold due to a hypothetical. We win when we challenge the REALITY that is hurting working people.

I'm honestly running out of words I can use on the air to describe what's happening in and to this economy

Huh. Did not realize that the GOP spending bill Susan Collins helped write that's about to come up for a vote in the Senate CUTS HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FROM MAINE. Seems like the kind of thing people should know. #MEpolitics

I have to agree. Voting to give a blank check to Musk & Trump rather than using Senate’s power to negotiate is absurd. And a “messaging” bill isn’t going to cut it when they’re slashing and burning the Weather Service, Education, Election Security, etc. They’ve already shut down swaths of govt.

Putting forth an alternative you know will fail when the country is in crisis instead of using your votes for leverage to actually solve problems is absurd. What you DO is far more important than what you say.

Important overview of the unprecedented and unwarranted nature of this federal assault on a single state. Attacking Maine for not conforming with the President's novel interpretation of federal law is an attack on the constitutional order #mepolitics

Good thread. Important to note this continuing resolution guts election security funding.

We’re in for a world of economic hurt due to Trump/Musk’s reckless policies and Congressional abdication of power. It doesn’t have to be this way.

I met with a group of awesome University of Maine students today. Our flagship public university has transformed lives and families. It’s illegal, immoral and corrupt for the feds to cut off funding for just one public university in the country because Trump got upset at our Governor.

The threats are real, but silence by elected officials is cowardice. I’ve been doxxed, threatened and swatted, but I’ll never stop speaking up because democracy depends upon our voices. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/06/u...

“Efficiency” for tax cheats, more time waiting for our refunds for the rest of us.

Check out @laborhousing.bsky.social and their new initiative to address housing AND workers rights!

Maine weather reports are now less accurate due to Trump/Musk. #mepolitics

Pressure and outrage worked!

This makes life harder for Mainers and government less efficient for no good reason.

If you didn’t see this coming you haven’t been paying attention

What sucks is that NOAA is exactly how gov should work. The people pay for expert data collection and broadcast, then anyone and everyone is able to utilize it as they see fit. Now, what, we all send up our own weather satellites? Yes, that's what they want to happen.

Hulu cutting off streaming before the best actress and best picture are announced is the worst.

What Jim said

the details here are quite technical. there's finding money and there's finding money. but agreeing to spend USG money that is not appropriated is actually a statutory crime on the part of the individual who makes the obligation. So not Trump, but the appointee/employee who does it.

Enjoying the escapism of the Oscars tonight. Flow was one of the best movies of the year. Thrilled to see it win!

Ominous but not surprising economic indicators.

There’s a fake transcript of the Oval Office meeting today going around. Here’s a real one. foreignpolicy.com/2025/02/28/t...

I still stand with Ukraine because I will support democracy over dictatorships every time.

Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.

Just some general guidance here. We don't know all the details. But this presages taking a real hatchet to the whole social security system. Whether it's 20% of the staff or 50% who knows. But basically unsustainable cuts for a program anyway we've known it.

Also this. Firing the veterans who serve our veterans is ineptitude, not efficiency.

Mainers voted overwhelmingly in March 2020 in favor of vaccines. Incredible that RFK Jr and Musk under Trump are blocking the work to find a COVID vaccine in this era. RFK Jr and Musk also just canceled work on next year’s flu shots. Meaning a grim flu season next year unless they reverse course.

“We don’t celebrate one party or another. We celebrate America.”   The Passamaquoddy Tribe has fought with (and for) our country since 1776. Their strong, enduring relationship with the United States is one that transcends partisan politics.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Trading school meals for tax cuts for billionaires is immoral and unwise.

Study abroad programs for Maine (and all American) students sacrificed while they put millions of dollars more in a billionaire’s pocket? Looks like corruption, not efficiency.

Watched “I’m Still Here” and “Nickle Boys” in an effort to see all (or at least most) of the Oscar nominees. Definitely 2 of the best films of the season. Gutting.

Economies, too

Really awful.

"You must ask yourself: who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you? Will it be because of your race or your religion? Will it be because you look different or think differently? Where does it end?" - Maine Gov. Janet Mills

more and more stories like this www.cnn.com/2025/02/20/p...

I had to strengthen my personal security last winter especially after being doxxed and swatted because of my ruling that President Trump had engaged in insurrection on January 6. So I understand how it feels to be targeted. But all of us in office swore an oath to defend the Constitution.

This is insane. Does this kid have a security clearance? If not, he definitely shouldn’t have access to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency which plays a critical role in safeguarding our elections and the nation’s other critical infrastructure.

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

What we're witnessing is an ideologically motivated, but fairly indiscriminate and impetuous purge of virtually every facet of the US government. There is no remotely close precedent in the nation's history...and it's all being carried out under the banner of "conservatism."

Being $7.992 billion off seems like a big mistake, eh?

Good luck to us all in the lines this summer with those types of cuts! 😢

Good thing we're letting this guy access private data that he doesn't know how to read.
