This IS who we are, but we should try to be better anyway. Cynical idealist and lover of words and details with more cats than you.

Almost like filling your administration with criminals, howling lunatics, and bootlickers over competent people gets you whatever this was.

The high school marching bands at our smalltown Memorial Day parade marched better and looked less miserable doing it.

Some writer called Cruz a "skin sack full of spiders" during the 2016 primary and he's never done a single thing to dissuade me from thinking that's a pretty generous take on what an utter lying trash fire he is.

I think it took me nearly two years to know the names of any of the human regulars at my home dog park. The dogs, on the other hand ...

Yes, they did. They just didn't think it woukd be someone they knew or would inconvience them. Don't forget that Trump is not an unknown quantity. He's either been running or "governing" for 10 damn years. Stop infantilizing these people and ask how they "didn't know."

One of my kids did once. But I was a hands-on parent and not using him as a prop or meat shield.

I couldn't live like this. I've lived in several major cities and traveled others and every one of those places it was men who wouldn't step outside without packing who told me to be afraid. Weirdly not being scared, not being an asshole, and common sense got me through just fine.

Is that baby hanging? But seriously, have they considered not making life completely unbearable and unaffordable here?

NOT having the genetics he claimed may be one of the only authentically American things about this thoroughly unpleasant compulsive liar.

Can you guys maybe check with some real media to see who the president is now? It sounds like there's a whole lot of illegal stuff there that might be worth looking into instead of whatever this is.

Given the malignantly crazy-ass dumpster fire standing between him and the presidency and the likelihood they may need to pull the rip cord at some point, are we really surprised they're projecting like mad? Laying the groundwork for their whataboutism now.

We all become some version of Calvin's parents at some point. You find yourself telling them the most outlandishly made up bullshit just because it's the shortest route to peace and quiet.

Saying nothing was also an option. They choose to be this level of gaping oozing asshole.

My father died 7 years ago this month. I know it was a boiling hot Sunday morning and that I sobbed my heart out in McDonald's. But I honestly had no idea what day until my sister mentioned it on Facebook. Memory is tricky on truly traumatic stuff.

My grandfather fought Nazis. His grandfather fought for the Union. We had ancestors in every major conflict going back to the Revolution. I'm pretty sure they'd have a fairly dim opinion of a pro-Nazi draft dodger.

And this was of course immediately followed by "so that's why America is going to join every other so-called first world country in providing its citizens with health care to help them be healthy." Right? Right? Oh.

Never fear. America has no shortage of angry drunks who don't know much but are sure they know better than you and interchangeable blonde girls willing to spout whatever hateful nonsense you put in front of them if it means they get to be on TV.

It dismisses the whole worry about the collapsing supply chain to a few trinkets mostly for girls, not mentioning daily necessities while knowing that women also carry a disproportionate share of the burden of shopping and stocking for their families.

It wild how he encourages them in their delusions of him that bear only the vaguest resemblance to the real thing. But that's how you get all these chuckleheads who claim they thought they were voting for something completely different than the trash fire they signed on for.

While giving their own kids none of the love and support they might need to turn out as decent human beings. Because kids are just possessions or extensions of themselves anyway.

Which remains wild to me after watching him campaign in Pennsylvania last fall as "the REAL pro-choice Democrat." But of course all grifting is transactional in nature.

Our culture largely IS mainstream homogenized American culture and we have no one to blame but ourselves if we find it lacking. Any sense of ethnicity for white folks who have been here awhile beyond the occasional food festival or parade was sanded off by our immigrant ancestors to assimilate.

Those of us who were actually raised in this and not sporting some half-assed theory to turn Americans into serfs can tell you that that it was a huge thing to our folks to send us to college so we could do better and not kill ourselves on manual labor to make someone else rich.

I want to root for you in your fight against the regime pulling the plug on you, really I do. But disingenuous headlines like this make it hard. Serial impregnating women he hits up online isn't a "nuclear family." Courting white supremacists who denigrate his Indian wife/kids isn't "family values."

There isn't a single photo of me pregnant. No maternity shoots for me. While I'm glad I have my kids, I found the whole experience of my body being taken over unsettling almost beyond words. I felt like people stopped seeing me as a person and I really couldn't deal.

Most of the cities of any size vote blue but yes, it's a big state where excepting places like Harrisburg or State College, the population is mostly on the eastern or western edges. Like those obsessed with red maps of the US, they refuse to see how empty much of the big red center is.

"Too proud to complain" is a funny way of saying spoonfed culture grievance upon grievance to make up for lack of any solutions anyone might actually benefit from.

I grew up in a place like this. They care and resent very much that the rest of the world isn't burning up with envy of them. That's why they spend so much railing about minutia elsewhere that will never ever affect them. They're offered grievance instead of solutions.
