Never forget this day, February 28, 2025, when an American president abused and betrayed a democratic ally in the midst of a barbaric war with Russia. This grotesque stain will never wash away.

NEW: A searing editorial in the The Kyiv Independent. “It’s time to say it plainly. America’s leadership has switched sides in the war. The American people have not, and they should speak up. “A president just disrespected America in the Oval Office. It wasn’t Zelensky.” @kyivindependent.com

“Trump and Vance have revealed to Americans and to America’s allies their alignment with Russia, and their animosity toward Ukraine in general and its president in particular,” writes @davidfrum.bsky.social. “The truth is ugly, but it’s necessary to face it.” theatln.tc/OBWzC38t

"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

Today's Oval Office spectacle wasn't about showing strength, it was about surrendering to Putin. Trump and JD Vance have completely sold out America. Watch @therickwilson.bsky.social n react: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6_m...

This sobering piece from @ab-ibarra.bsky.social outlines the imminent threats to health coverage for millions of Californians as the GOP considers deep cuts to #Medicaid. @calbudgetcenter.org @edwincpark.bsky.social @thewallner.bsky.social @amberchrist.bsky.social calmatters.org/health/2025/...

Reminder: Whenever a policymaker claims to be interested only in cutting "waste" and "fraud," that's generally a deception aimed at sowing confusion and hiding deep cuts to core service levels. #Medicaid

When they say “waste, fraud, and abuse,” the response should be: Kids, parents, and seniors Medicaid covers 40% of births in the US Medicaid covers 40% of all kids in the US (50% of kids with special needs) Medicaid covers 60% of nursing home residents in the US. #MedicaidMatters Pass it on

None of what's going on in the Trump administration has anything to do with creating "efficiencies." Their claims to the contrary should never be taken at face value.

Get in good trouble, necessary trouble.

Deep Medicaid cuts could shift $10B-$20B+ in costs to California, destabilizing the #CAbudget. “These cuts are especially worrisome… costs would need to be absorbed somehow to keep Medi-Cal whole,” says @shg29.bsky.social Read more from @pwillon.bsky.social. www.latimes.com/politics/new...

A Prop. 36 proponent noted in CalMatters on 10/16/2024 that "revenue from Medicaid" could help expand treatment. If Medi-Cal is such a key part of the treatment system, do those seeking such Prop. 36 resources oppose the massive cuts to Medicaid now sought by D.C. Republicans? (1/2 🧵)

Counties are "scrambling to implement" #Prop36 without "new funding or sufficient resources" because the folks who put Prop. 36 on the ballot failed to include a revenue source to pay for the new costs. In short, they promised new services without the money to back it up. #BadMath #CABudget #CALeg

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

House has now passed its budget resolution requiring at least $880b in #Medicaid cuts. Now focus should be on Senate and ensuring that it insists on conferencing vastly different budget resolutions rather than trying to pass House resolution and its Medicaid cuts as-is.

A statement from @sharonparrott.bsky.social on the passage of the House budget resolution, which calls for deep cuts in health coverage, food assistance, and college aid—all to pay for huge tax giveaways for wealthy households and businesses: www.cbpp.org/press/statem...

House Republican Budget Takes Away Health Care, Food Aid to Pay for Expanded Tax Cuts for Wealthy

Though the number of homeless shelter beds has boomed in California in recent years, not many more people are getting into permanent housing. Meanwhile, those shelters have become deadlier than jails. calmatters.org/housing/2025...

How Republican-Led Budget Cuts Could Impact Californians in Every Congressional District Read more from @calbudgetcenter.org on the impact of federal cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and School Meals in your district: calbudgetcenter.org/resources/ho...

NEW: Republican-led budget cuts could strip millions of Californians of health coverage, food assistance, and other essential services. Slashing federal funds threatens vital programs in every congressional district. 🔍 See how your community could be impacted: calbudgetcenter.org/resources/ho...

The House budget resolution calls for committees to enact $2 trillion in deeply harmful cuts through 2034 in programs and services for families and communities, including cuts to #Medicaid, #SNAP, and student loans. www.cbpp.org/blog/house-r...

And yet, the House GOP is so desperate to push their dreadful budget resolution across the finish line that they refuse to own up to the draconian #Medicaid funding cuts that the resolution would require. They're pretending the $880B in cuts could magically be found somewhere else.

$230 billion in #SNAP cuts would mean households with low incomes in *every state* would lose the support they need to put food on the table. Here's how many people would be harmed: www.cbpp.org/research/foo...

New Urban Institute report on impact of cutting federal $ for #Medicaid expansion. If in place in 2026, states must increase their spending by $44b in that year (+26%) or drop expansion with 16m losing coverage. 3.4m would lose coverage right away due to trigger laws: www.urban.org/research/pub...

This is the ridiculous talking point House leadership is now going with? It’s the equivalent of saying the instruction to the Ways & Means Committee to increase the deficit by not more than $4.5 trillion doesn’t even mention the words “tax cuts”.

For my friends, everything. For my enemies, the law. That’s an old diktat, usually attributed to an old Latin American dictator. But it could easily apply today, as cowardly Republicans beg President Donald Trump to spare them — and only them — from the DOGE chainsaw. wapo.st/4kfZ8o9

URGENT: The House is set to vote tomorrow on whether to advance $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid — eviscerating essential programs that provide lifesaving services for people with disabilities, children, seniors, and more. Tell your representative now: Don't cut Medicaid.

U.S. Attorneys are not the President’s lawyers. They are the United States’ lawyers. You didn’t pledge an oath to a President, you pledged it to the constitution. This statement alone is reason enough to resign.

Important reminder that the impact of massive federal funding reductions would radiate out across California like a blast wave. None of California's diverse communities would be spared, leaving local jurisdictions with gut-wrenching decisions about what to salvage. #CABudget #CALeg

House Republicans are clearly afraid to admit that their budget resolution — which is up for a vote as soon as tomorrow, 2/25 — WILL result in devastating cuts to #Medicaid that will shift massive costs to the states. Does no one in the GOP have the guts to stand up and acknowledge this?

So misleading. Budget resolution requires Energy & Commerce to come up with at least $880b/10 years in savings. If you're protecting Medicare than based on E&C's jurisdiction, most or all of the cuts have to come out of #Medicaid. The math is the math. And the cuts are then locked in moving forward!

The research is done and the results are in: When it comes to taking health care away from people, there really are no new ideas. #Medicaid

Critics of the ACA's Medicaid expansion describe enrollees as "able-bodied." But, they're also largely working people who are in low-wage jobs that don't have good health benefits, part of what's now the Republican voter base.

Great reporting on Elon Musk's relentless effort to harass and intimidate federal employees. wapo.st/4ieqKsh

This coming week, House Republicans will try to advance their plan for deep cuts to #Medicaid, food assistance, and other vital services. These and other potential cuts would impact people, programs, and local jurisdictions across California. @calbudgetcenter.org has the details...

Trying to get my BSky going and break my Twitter addiction. Pretty good starter pack. Any others to recommend?

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

BRAVO to Maine Governor Janet Mills for slapping petty tyrant trump in the face with her calmly defiant "see you in court." THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE. 🔥🔥🔥

FFS New York Times. They’re not *his generals. Unbelievable

Yep, this is real. A friend works for a major federal agency and said her team received this email from Musk's HR goons a couple of hours ago. They're all supposed to answer the question "what did you accomplish last week?" The answer she'd like to give would probably get her fired.

During their campaigns last year, did Trump or any Republican members of Congress run on gutting #Medicaid, SNAP food assistance, and other vital public services? And did they loudly proclaim that these devastating spending cuts would fund tax cuts for corps and the wealthy? I didn't think so.

Why are Republicans letting Musk and Trump do this? apnews.com/article/fire...

👏Thank you @shg29.bsky.social and @calbudgetcenter.org for addressing the harmful impact of federal cuts on vital programs! #CABudget

Overnight, the Senate passed a partisan budget that lays a path for taking food assistance & health coverage away from people & making college more expensive -- to pay for defense & deportation funding &, later, costly tax cuts for the wealthy.  www.cbpp.org/press/statem...
