They are only worried about white birth rates, so as long as it's smart brown people who leave, I don't think they'll realize until too late that they relied on those smart brown people for their medications at the pharmacy, flu shots, research, etc

The problem with public domain and/or perpetually popular classics is there are 2587038294570 audiobooks of them. Soooooo, if you have a favorite version of a classic text that is not Audible-only, will you tell me the narrator so I can look it up on @librofm.bsky.social?

But there are a handful of classics I think I might not hate slash am genuinely interested in. I think I would like them more as audiobooks than sitting on my couch paging through disintegrating oldass copies 23897095 college students have already marked up & sent to the used bookstore over and over

that's both on a personal lack of interest level & also on a sociopolitical level of not wanting to give my limited free time, brain, and small influence to amplify what is at best already familiar to me due to my existing in the western world and at worst white male garbage not worth my time

see, with me I think it's the water. Like, I can smell the tap through the coffee. It's like when you get a drink and you can tell the ice cubes are stale.

I was translating these for some friends and realized I wrote "bon appetit" for "buen provecho," which is not strictly speaking wrong but certainly not English

those standards will always benefit and serve the powerful.
Anyway, I'm working on a whole article or series of articles that dives into this more deeply, as well as considering how to turn components of my dissertation into a book or two, but those are my brief thoughts for now.
