I've been reading a lot this week about Austria in the 1930s. Successive right wing governments that culminated in a Fatherland Front govt (fascist) that presided over poverty and decline but opposed Nazi annexation bc they believed in "Austria for the Austrians" and urged people to "Buy Austrian."

This crisis only exists because Liberal, Conservative, and NDP govts at the provincial level have consistently worked to reduce their funding for post-secondary, letting highly-paid presidents hold the institutions together on high tuition and exploited faculty. The crisis is a choice.
