Don't confuse important and impactful. Some things affect more people than others. Some things have a wider reach than others. It doesn't mean they are more or less important and that's not what the NYT is saying here.

Dude, this take is idiotic. Always has been. Art and entertainment have always been political. You're just on the opposite side of it this time.

Go read that article again. He has a 70% approval amongst registered Republicans in the same poll.

Hes not using any calculations. It's the same thing Trump does: suggest something insane to get a response.

Ignoring because the dismantling or privitizing social security is an old GOP policy thing. And theres merit to the idea. Most pension/social security type services wont be able to stay afloat without significsnt restructure. The hang up is always that you need to replace it with something.

The difference this time is that he's effectively radicalized the people that actually spent money on him. The basement edgelords aren't buying Teslas. Maga isn't buying Teslas. Maga doesn't support space exploration. The man has done well in the past, but you can only shoot your foot so many times.

This has been done to death. Yes, most electric grids are dirty. But it's easier to clean up an electric grid than to replace all fossil fuel burning things. Plus even in coal burning areas, evs come out a head. Engineering Explained has a great break down on the subject.

If Trump did anything other than make noise, yes. But Trump makes a lot of noise and what happens as a result is unimportant to him.

Can we just admit Trump and Vance were waiting to do something ridiculous like this?

On a moral level, I care about DEI and Trans issues more than economic bs, but in terms of pure impact, the NYT is probably right. RFK messing with vaccines and DOGE messing with everything is going to impact exponentially more people than the number of trans people in the US.

Unfortunately it does. The stock price drop is due to Musk selling off stock to help keep Twitter together.

And in case you were wondering about the “you went to Pennsylvania and campaigned with the opposition” thing:

This is the key exchange:
“Vance: Have you said thank you once?
Zelensky: A lot of times.
Vance: No, in this entire meeting, have you said thank you?”
People have pointed out that Zelensky has thanked the people of the US many times.
But he didn’t praise Trump in the meeting.

This shouldn't be a surprise. The guy was voted in with a pretty healthy amount of white supremacist and antisemite sentiment despite whatever "attempts" his campaign made to distance themselves from it.

I liked the concept. I'm just not in the headspace for it.

If they didn't vote, it doesn't matter. That's what has me so upset. People knew this was coming and did nothing.
