The headlines are freaking out but *nothing* about EMTALA itself is rescinded. EMTALA enforces the most basic of emergency care tenets. We will assess and stabilize because that is what we do.

She’s in her AUTHOR ERA! It’s publication day for LAWLESS: How the Supreme Court Runs on Conservative Grievance, Fringe Theories, & Bad Vibes! As a forever book nerd, I had so much fun writing this-I hope you have fun reading it! Get it at your local bookstore today!! bookshop.org/p/books/lawl...

This is a wonderfully comprehensive delineation of what we're up against. It really gives a sense of things that, as hard as it is to wrap one's head around, is vital for us to do so we can take all the peaceful-yet-bold action we can to counter it. Please read and share.

Folks, this podcast w/ former Trump DHS Chief of Staff-turned whistle blower, Miles Taylor, is truly a must-listen given what's going on in LA. He tells us w/ zero hyperbole that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Listen. No really: listen.

Democracies do not mobilize their military against their own people. Authoritarian states do. This is a war-footing escalation, intended to assert control. Massive violation of 🚨 civil liberties and🚨rule of law.

Well that's not good... Even more insane, he said that the move was "necessary to re-establish public confidence in vaccine science." www.statnews.com/2025/06/09/r...

DOGE cut off Social Security Administration spending so now workers have to use their own money to buy office supplies. Meanwhile Elon Musk makes $8 million every single day from the government.

"Internal proposals to release the food remain on hold, awaiting sign-off from the Office of Foreign Assistance, now headed by 28-year-old Elon Musk appointee, Jeremy Lewin." Call your representatives.

Thought of this quote today: "Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance" George Bernard Shaw Seems more dangerous today than back in Shaw's day with the amplification of false knowledge by social media.

Only a couple more days until @unite4vets.bsky.social takes over the National Mall to rally for our veterans and all they’ve been promised and are owed from the gov’t. From saving veterans’ gov’t jobs to protecting and sustaining VA healthcare, they deserve what they earned in service. #unite4vets

I want to live in a country that brings the Universe to people, not a country that annihilates a people and the universes that they contain. What are your values? 🔭🧪

It's National Public Health Week, the saddest one in memory. We have lost a generation of scientists and public servants, whose institutional memory and works in progress will be lost to our nation with their abrupt dismissals www.bmj.com/content/389/...

Great Replacement Theory in action… On day one, Donald Trump suspended the refugee settlement admissions program. But now he’s giving white Afrikaners U.S. citizenship because they “could be assimilated easily into our country”? This isn’t a dog whistle—it’s a freaking bullhorn!

Imagine this with cars. That’s what we’ve done to a lot of our public spaces.

I’ve lived in Hawai’i for nearly two decades and have not owned an aloha shirt, until now. My neighbor designed this one and I wore it at the symposium celebrating the retirement of Margaret Leinen, the director of @scrippsocean.bsky.social.

In recognition of us doing fuck all to reduce emissions, let me remind y'all that carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is useless unless we decarbonize drastically. rdcu.be/dbFbB

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

1. Clay Jackson, a Texas lawyer, provided basic legal advice to an immigrant family fearing deportation Then, two officers visited him at his home, accusing him of "obstructing an ongoing immigration investigation" Then, after speaking publicly, he was fired from his job at a Fortune 500 company

So relieved to see that Mellon will be providing emergency relief funding the US’s state and jurisdictional humanities councils. If I learned one thing during my years at NEH, it was how crucial these organizations are to our public humanities infrastructure. www.mellon.org/news/america...

Join ACH, AHA, & MLA to talk about the appeals process for terminated NEH grants. Why is it important to appeal and how might you go about doing so? 11am Eastern on Wed, April 30. Please share!

I have been waiting for analyses like these and am grateful to see some numbers (an estimated cost of $135 billion this fiscal year alone - and that figure does not include "the cost to taxpayers of defending DOGE’s moves in court"): www.nytimes.com/2025/04/24/u...

I learned about civil legal inequality 20+ years ago, when I did an internship at a legal services org serving low-income people in the community I grew up in. That internship didn't make me want to be a lawyer, but it made me ask the questions at the root of some of my current research (1/n).

I don't have the right emoji for how it feels to read this appreciation -- for a piece that felt so challenging to write and that so many people helped me craft. 🙏
