Mine was a memorable hike w friends a year ago (March '24). We took a wrong turn to avoid an angry-looking herd of cows & got seriously lost in the vast meadows of Sunol for abt a couple hrs! We retraced our steps (thank heavens for a garmin). Reaching the Flag Hill summit was especially sweet :)

@audreywatters.bsky.social, it was the GenAI project director of CoSN (an edu non-profit, not industry, that's breathlessly evangelizing GenAI) who said "If you're not working hard at it, you're going to fall behind, and you’re not serving your students well” (smh) www.edsurge.com/news/2025-03...

According to the Wired article, the decision of whose job to terminate and the mechanics of the termination was up to the NSF. www.wired.com/story/nation...

Teachers who resist AI mania aren't afraid, out of touch, wasting time or irresponsible. "By focusing not on their students’ ability to use generative AI but on their students’ ability to be generative and thus thrive in a world that can sustain them, they are absolutely thinking about the future."

"'Teach them how to use it ethically'...ignores the impact of AI on the planet our students will inherit...It must ignore this because—setting much else aside [eg...] abuses of copyright and of workers—AI’s environmental abuses alone mean there is no such thing as ethical AI use in most classrooms."

Universities might consider stepping up and dig into their deep pockets to save the day for those in need. Until things get resolved. Most R1s, at least, have plenty in their coffers.

"Nonsense" may be a more usable word (with kids, in classrooms, and in polite company :))
