The selection mechanism for the voices that get to talk on behalf of the trans community doesn't select based on knowledge and ability to make sense of our plight Rather it selects on the basis of class and the ability of the speaker not to embarrass political authority too much.

I will be forever fucking furious about the way Munroe Bergdorf was treated. People say we need smart, calm, intelligent spokespeople and we had one in her. She was monstered and blacklisted and it's like everybody just forgot?

One thing with this HRT discourse is that injectables are not even covered on the NHS. That and 'official' forms of HRT are low dosages or limit your options whilst still requiring you to engage in advocacy labour between GICs and doctors. GPs can just refuse to prescribe to you and it is allowed.

Flicking through We Both Laughed in Pleasure and discovering that Lou Sullivan was a fan of The Beatles...and his favourite was Paul. Incredible.

Sent in my ballot! 🗳️💪

Our ballot is live! Say NO to job cuts! Vote YES to action short of strike and strike action! bsky.app/profile/shef...

'Our paradigm must be for liberation, always. Liberation of the global working class, and liberation of all the oppressed....Meaning comes through struggle. If we are not generating our own meaning, we are not in the struggle.'

I do think about strategy and organising a lot, I think from years of feeling excluded from it and even pushed out of it. But it's very individualised, it's wanting to be able to have the spaces and resources to consider how to engage in socialist and feminist movement building more.

This enthusiastic response is despite the fact that currently, rewilding land means giving up any chance of receiving farm subsidies. Can you imagine the huge uptake if farmers had the option of being paid to rewild, just they are to farm or grow tree plantations? Why is this STILL not happening??

Looking back on this and then read this today in @prometheusjournal.bsky.social An excellent piece that really dissects the various issues within British left-organising and stresses the need for Marxist unity in building a mass party. prometheusjournal.org/2025/02/19/t...

RIP Nilay Ateşoğlu, a Queer Kurdish asylum seeker who sadly took her own life at the Cliffs of Moher. "I have no family," her note said. She asked to be buried in "a handful of soil" in Ireland. "Do not give my corpse to the oppressors." Her note was ignored & her body was sent to Turkey.

Come edit Marxism with me!

We at Twentieth Century Communism are very sad to hear of Marika Sherwood's passing, a pioneering historian of communism, anti-colonialism and pan-Africanism. Amongst other writings, her book for @lawrencewishart.bsky.social on Claudia Jones was a ground-breaking work. lwbooks.co.uk/product/clau...

Lovely write up to one of the best pubs in Sheffield. Although I do touch the jukebox (me and my partner have been told by the staff that we put on good music).

reposting with alt text for accessibility BREAKING: Indigenous activist Leonard Peltier released from prison after nearly 50 years.

Yeah, can't believe this sold out over the weekend! Like the post says, online sessions will happen in between these sessions at Juno Books, focusing on lesser known literature, somewhat reminiscent of what Liberated Texts does. Next session will likely be on 1980s socialist feminism in Sheffield.

Reading the UK section of the Annual Review and a few things we want to highlight: 1. The shameful way in which migrants (LGBTQ+ or otherwise) are treated 2. The number of court cases brought by anti-trans campaigners 3. The sheer amount of stuff that is making it harder to be trans in the UK.

My weekend book purchases were pretty good I must say. All for ~£20 (which was mainly for the Sheffield Troublemakers book, which I didn't know came in a hardcover!)

👀👀👀 Hopefully see some of you there!

Slowly but surely, this is happening. 😊

The British Sociological Association @britsoci.bsky.social have removed replaced "gender" with "sex" in their member equality survey, and erased the "non-binary" response option entirely. Love to see the professional body of sociology echoing Donald Trump.

Finished the book last night, here is my review on The StoryGraph: app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/5cb5...

Pretty much this. I think there are some attempts being made around this (mainly local organising and some work by rs21 and associated groups), but not enough. Also left-wing groups/orgs/parties have to understand why marginalised people don't feel welcome or can contribute to building socialism.

The people this is intended to impress think Starmer personally orchestrates and protects ethnic sexual abuse gangs and this won’t make any difference to that, but it will repel even more of the people who might be inclined to vote for them.

Would be up for visiting here when I'm next in Dublin. I do enjoy my hot sauces 🌶️

Forthcoming, 29th April. Fascism and the Women’s Cause by Alex Charnley and Michael Richmond investigates the tangled roots of the women’s struggle and the manifestations of the women’s cause today in violent moral panics against queer and racialised people. www.ebb-magazine.com/books/p/fasc...

Decision made to demolish the remains of the Grenfell Tower. A government vowing to cut red tape and regulation wouldn't want the population to see a constant reminder of where such a policy leads.

Apsana Begum and John McDonnell still not restored either.
