Algerian incompetence rears its head once again. Literally zero communication from anyone working here about what’s going on.

lol I saw it on Twitter first which tends to happen when people double post. Also find myself prioritizing stuff on here from people that have completely left that other site which is still not a lot yet…

One day my sister will murder someone for crunching on ice cubes in a movie theater. Oh, we both liked the movie btw.

i have! wasn't as high on it personally but definitely appreciated its unique approach. was certainly one of the better films of its kind that came out around then.

one of the most underappreciated movies of the last ten years. incredible father-son duo performance.

Yess I love this one a lot, the way his camera moves and makes you aware of everything within those spaces is so great. Have you seen any other Nihalani films? I’m quite fond of Ardh Satya.

you don't have to rush to see Anora. haven't seen Here but i don't understand the love for late Zemeckis at all.

Kinda amusing that Merzak Allouache is still working but he’s also prolly the only Algerian filmmaker who can self finance through his own production companies.

not really, still feels weird to me. i find myself kinda splitting off, more movies/personal stuff on here and more sports stuff over there. might start double posting my football threads though.

it's not terrible but it's the emptiest of Baker's movies that i've seen and is the longest of the bunch. not a great combination!

these would also work great as film series someone please hire me to program all of this at their cinema.

I do to tbh, also in part because his docs really impacted me when I saw them in college but who’s to say whether those have held up. It did seem odd that his first fiction feature was going to be a musical.

Ahh fair point regarding the riffs in his recent works. It does seem like he has a particular affinity for that time and those characters. Will definitely try to revisit that and Ash before seeing Caught by the Tides.

Need to catch up with the new one. Also interesting that you rank Unknown Pleasures so highly! I’m also a lot higher on The World myself but it’s splitting hairs at a certain point he’s amazing across the board.

This has happened to me with filmmakers like Aster and Eggers. Didn’t even dislike the first one or two films that I saw but a combination of the discourse and blandness of their approaches has made them easy to become disinterested in.
