I have also been laughing at Nyx mining and smelting ore in her magical girl outfit. I put her in it for Love is in the Air and haven't had the heart to change it. Can't do specialty blacksmithing if you don't look CUTE

The first encounter has the player character magically take control of a black dragonkin and pilot him around like a puppet, making him destroy egg after egg in a room filled with them while he screams about how horrified and furious he is that we're forcing him to do this.

I'm glad I thought to do this because now I can file all of this info away for use in a future fanfic if I ever want to write more about Nyx learning blacksmithing from the Dark Iron dwarves.

It's kind of neat how you have to learn the recipe from one of the Seven in Blackrock Depths and then can only smelt the ore at this one forge that's buried waaay at the end of the dungeon near the entrance to Molten Core. idk why but I love learning about obscure things like this from classic.

Yeah, all of this. I have a feeling that Wrathion's messy story wouldn't have been quite so jarring if other characters like Merithra were allowed to be messy as well.

They want to have these juicy, tragic plot beats and all of the emotions that come with them in their story but they don't have the confidence to carry that forward and write under the consequences of them.

Yeah, the Malfurion as Persephone thing also struck me as very wishy-washy, a similar tragic beat that they couldn't or wouldn't commit to even though they wanted the dramatics of that moment. I think you put it right when you said they're uncertain of themselves.

WoW retroactively made Neltharion out to be a cruel, sadistic asshole even before he became corrupted by the Old Gods and also centered the black dragonflight's story around him in Dragonflight, to its detriment I'd argue, but at least he's stayed dead.

These expansions (Dragonflight, Into the Emerald Dream) really should be the time to highlight Merithra and acclimate the playerbase to her as the new Aspect of Nature but it looks like WoW is still heavily leaning on Ysera as representative of the green dragonflight for some reason. Nostalgia?
