Trump/Musk cutting off communications access to the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fighting in horrible conditions, giving their lives defending Europe, as an extortion is exactly what the US is now. And they voted for it.

History tells us of so many who fail to act, hesitate, or freeze and then pay the price. They sit back in shock or disbelief until it’s too late. They don’t rise to the moment. I have news for you. You are there right now. open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

Another "Sieg Heil" in Washington D.C.

I research news media for a living. I teach media systems every semester. I supervise students who write about, among other things, journalism in challenged democracies. I know what I'm talking about. This statement from the in-coming FBI Director is incredibly dangerous for democracy in the US.

My warmest greetings go out to the wonderful people who built their careers sniffing out “Ukrainian Nazis” under every stone in Ukraine for tasty headlines that fueled Russian war propaganda on this-is-why-Ukraine-must-be-dealt-with, only to get Nazi salutes normalized in their own country.

⚡ Zelenskyy: "Ukraine is ready for a strong and truly beneficial deal with the U.S. President—one that secures both investment and long-term security guarantees."

Trump is refusing to support a UN resolution condemning Russia for its aggression toward Europe. It doesn't get any clearer than that.

Question: Are traditional Republican hawks approving of: Trump abandoning and threatening allies from Ukraine to Canada and European countries Hegseth threatening 8% yearly cuts to US defence budget Musk gutting Veteran´s Affairs, putting services and benefits in doubt?

As Trump makes concessions to Russia, he is showing weakness on a level unprecedented in modern US history. His position is so weak that it is unlikely to convince anyone. Trump is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. The wolves can tell the difference "The Weak Strongman" snyder.substack.com/p/the-weak-s...

Here we go!

There are still $300 billion in frozen Russian assets ready to be obtained and distributed. We have to focus on this discussion.

"Arms deliveries from the US to Ukraine have stalled. Even weapons meant for sale are now on hold. Companies ready to supply them tomorrow are waiting—no decision yet. Everyone expects a resolution so that arms can keep flowing, even for money," Head of Ukraine’s Defense Committee Roman Kostenko.

The two largest nuclear-weapon states of the world announce to the planet's other nations: GET A.S.A.P. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION unless you want your territory and sovereignty to be one day on the menu too.

What I’ve understood from military experts who follow the battlefield situation closely is that it’s currently actually starting to go better for Ukraine and less well for Russia. So the timing seems key - Trump has stepped in before Russia ends up in a worse negotiating position.

❗️Estonia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (EFIS) reports that Russia is expanding its armed forces in a way that not only supports Russia’s war effort in Ukraine but also prepares for a potential future war with NATO.

Expeditionary warfare, with small professional troops and equipment to fit the crisis management tasks, was NATO’s post-Cold War doctrine. Led and implemented by the US. Europeans should have done more since 2014 but complaining about the small size of European militaries is a bad faith argument.

My bet: The U.S. has already given the whole of Europe to Russia. Europe as a whole is now in what the U.S. consider Russia's sphere of influence. American troop withdrawal from Europe imminent. Stop being naive. It's time to act.

Peace talks in Saudi Arabia focussed on ensuring Ukraine will not defend itself when we attack it again.

Russia wants to divide us (US and Europe), but Trump is actively doing it, day by day.

How refreshing it would be to hear these exact words from the US president:

I hope people understand what we are seeing here. 1) Trump and Putin are preparing a common plan to dictate to Ukraine. 2) Ukraine will surprise them (at least Trump) by refusing. 3) The War will continue. 4) The role of Europe will be decisive.

Perhaps Zelensky should broker a deal with China, instead of wasting any more time on Trump? Compared to Trump's "offer" of taking all of Ukraine's minerals in return for handing over a third of Ukraine to Russia, then China's bid of peacekeeping and rebuilding does sound more palatable.

Gutting America's soft power while praising the "leadership" of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Trump and his network of collaborators are unraveling the US system of check and balances and laying down the ground for a criminal dictatorship. “[This is] dictatorship,” “This is something very different. It’s a shattering assault … on the foundations of the constitution.” #SpookyConnections
