I've often insisted that we need to keep our eyes on Trump's actions more than his words (because so many of the words are bluster & lies). Now we have a genuinely dangerous action: a purge at the Pentagon, notably a purge of the top figures who can decide if Trump's commands are unconstitutional.

"Project 2025 approved SSA administrator steps down just 3 weeks into the administration, giving up a GS-15 career in the process, because she knew even one more week on the job would risk putting her in prison for decades" is a very good and comforting sign (Musk's touching the stove)

SCOOP from @nbcnews.com — A senior FEMA official instructed subordinates to freeze funding for a wide array of grant programs Monday, just hours after a federal judge ordered the Trump administration — for the second time — to stop such pauses. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

Federal employee with a data role told me that a document was removed from employee access because it had the word "inclusion" in it. As in, "inclusion of data in our estimates."

"I do think there has to be accountability. Congress has the power of the purse, of course. And we have oversight responsibility. And we’ve been vigorously using both of those powers." - Mike Johnson, May 2024.

This might be the most nakedly corrupt document I’ve seen on DOJ letterhead — and I wrote a history of Watergate!

It's important to remember that any principled effort to remove fraud from America's public life would start with an all-out push to prosecute and imprison Elon Musk. There is no bigger fraudster alive today.

They want to bring back a world where vicious public racism is A-OK

A brain-poisoned sentence if I’ve ever seen one

Pat Buchanan in 1990 advocating for the USA annexing Greenland and large parts of Canada.

The 48 House Democrats who voted alongside all 216 Republicans to enable the detention of undocumented immigrants who are arrested (*not necessarily convicted*) for things like shoplifting:

every new restaurant in every major city is either called Thistle+Thorn and thinks adding turmeric to brussel sprouts makes them worth $30 or is called Burger Bitch and has a neon sign in the window that says “im gonna fuck a hamburger”

like i have been saying, a lot of americans do not treat politics as “real” — they approach it with an ironic distance that allows them to treat clear threats and statements of intent as mere rhetoric. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/15/u...

Notice this investigation was done in Lebanon. Israel and the US don’t allow outside journalists and/or human rights organizations to investigate in Palestine because the simple answer is the right answer. Israel is a genocidal state that targets journalists and medical personnel with US support.

In politics clarity is its own opportunity. The storm of the 2024 election has created great clarity. The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, and 3rd richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, are currently asking a group of Trump judges to end the right to organize & join a union in the United States.

i think that there is a type of person who treats politics as fundamentally a type of discourse, and all political acts as fundamentally discursive rather than material. this is why people say that they are not voting "to make a statement:" political action consists of statements made the powerful.

You can also see this in how many downplay the seriousness of Jan 6th. In my opinion the riot was less dangerous to the system than the tireless work Trump’s attorneys were doing leading up to 01/06. It’s like it never happened.

t.co/Du9eMonXCU great piece from Nathan Robinson pointing out how bad @theatlantic.bsky.social is

A 3rd person has self-immolated in protest of US complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. His name is Matt Nelson. He joins Aaron Bushnell and a person yet to be named.

Rarely does a single picture really illuminate that the modern Republican movement is not based on political theory. It is just a quest for absolute power and domination of those they see as inferior.

Within hours of this, Israel kills over 100 civilians in a massacre at a refugee camp. Their response is loud and clear. They want to continue exterminating Palestinians.
