As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

DOOM! We had a lovely interview with Luke, about his viral video "Non-Euclidean Doom: what happens to a game when pi is not 3.14159…" and of course Where to hack, news and tiaras. Watch youtu.be/e8dH11-BR1I Listen whycast.podcast.audio/

My cartoon for today’s @guardian books.

So. @3licks.bsky.social @wottsky.bsky.social and I went to the theatre. There was interpretive Dance. It was interesting.

It was fun. Less Roman Empire than when I have @ftw.bsky.social on but at least Georgia can't tell us off for this one. Very interesting to talk about her escapades in FoI and the waiting list now longer than Glastonbury. Not to mention @puddleuddle.bsky.social sharing her story as well!

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via @thediscourse study. This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

Oh no

My favourite bit of this article is the bit where they have to admit that the wealth-hoarding boomer stereotype is 100% accurate.

Blaming the left for the rise of the far right instead of the centrists that have absorbed their policies and rhetoric and shifted everything rightward how very Guardian

This is an immensely silly idea. Cruel, callous, sadistic, treaty-breaching, but also silly. It is a toddler tantrum printed in what used to be a newspaper.

Since back in the USENET days, at least. And as someone who has an actual philosophy degree and a deeply Western Civilization educational focus thanks to UChicago and a private boarding school, these racist dicks can go piss up a rope, Aristotle would hate every fucking one of them.

A very chilly start again today! Got ice crystals on the window. Still, it's nice to see it getting light earlier now

The ‘final’ evaluation report of the bus fare cap (covering 10 months of the £2 cap) is now out. Lots to digest here but key point is it did what it was meant to: “The evidence suggests… it has reduced the cost of living and has increased bus patronage, particularly for those on lower incomes.”

An astonishing exchange today between Pete Hegseth and a European reporter who has no time whatsoever for his bullshit. How I wish American media had an ounce of this steel. #hamburger

If I could win a couple million and go on an extended break from this project, that would be lovely.

BBC just released damning research on AI assistants' news accuracy. Results: 51% of AI responses had significant issues. 19% introduced errors when citing BBC. 13% misquoted or made up BBC content entirely. 🤐🤐 www.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/... via @ezraeeman.bsky.social

A good round-up of "sustainable" air fuel hype vs. reality. The article appears to leave the lede until the end, however, which is that under current assumptions, emissions savings by 2030 from SAF are likely to amount to ... 0%

With the purchase of 70 acres of land for a new woodland/wetland in Bath coming any day, we’re about to empty out our coffers, and the £65k government grant for 20,000 of the trees we planted is nowhere in sight. Help @protect.earth stay afloat! https://www.protect.earth/act-now/general-donation

I'm afraid what risks 'hollowing out' London is property prices, foreign consortia owning countless empty buildings, rental costs, the decimation of nightlife, gentrification and Pretification and the demise of in person shopping. It should be somewhere we want to go not have to.

The Labour right screamed and broke things for years and this is what it was for: so they could get their photos in the paper looking "seriously" out of frame while they pretended to solve a problem by making everyone's lives worse.

⚡️ The historic moment of Estonia leaving the Russian-fed power grid. On February 8, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia left Russia and Belarus energy system. By the end of the day today, they will have joined the European grid.
