Translation subtitles are not enough, I need fully glossed interlinear text.

Get on to The Piano on ABC TV and hear a Bob Dylan song in Wiradjuri!

There goes my Sunday plans. 😜

Yup.

My son has exams coming up and told me he studied an hour of history. I asked him which hour of history he studied, but my dadly comic genius went unnoticed.

Americans and Britons swear more online than Australians, research finds. WTF?

🇺🇸🇬🇧🇦🇺 Who swears the most online? A global study using ARDC-supported tools crunched billions of words to find out—and the results might surprise you. 🔗https://ardc.edu.au/article/oh-sht-which-country-swears-the-most-online/ #UQ @monashuniversity.bsky.social #linguistics

Some serious nerdery.... The Corpus of Oz Early English (accessible at data.ldaca.edu.au) has 3 entries in its contents spreadsheet with no corresponding files. As good stewards of the data, we wanted to try to fill these gaps. And this turns into a strange story worth a thread! 1/8

While most linguists use the 'Comparative Method' to subgroup languages, others resort to the 'Imperative Method'. #linguistics

So this is how it's supposed to work – you make things to help people use GLAM collections, and the GLAM organisations share your work with their users so that everyone benefits. Simple really... (via LI)

Thrilled to launch a #journalism resource written by myself, @nabelew.bsky.social & Amanda Holmes: tinyurl.com/languagejour... We appreciate the growing attention the #media is giving to #language endangerment & revitalization, but issues are often covered in ways cause unintentional harm. How? 🗞️

I bought the complete Bach edition when Telefunken put it out on a memory stick a few years back. I try to listen to the appropriate cantata(s) on Sunday as a somewhat structured way of exploring that repertoire. I must have missed the 2nd Sunday after Easter before. 1/2

Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, may 4. Has the blood letting begun?

"I'm not totally plucked Brian. My goose is not cooked. And as Jane has indicated, the chicken has yet to be gutted, and in the fullness of time, we'll see what the entrails entail after we've seen the officlal offal results." "They'll be offal?" "We are expecting them to be pretty terrible Brian"

I found this to be disturbing reading - but the question which I can't answer is: is this worse than what happened previously?

I laughed so hard at this I'm almost ashamed

The last day on which a majority of the Supreme Court’s justices had been appointed by Democratic presidents was May 14, 1969. One of the things we do in the legal academy is support our claims with facts.

I don’t think we’ve properly explored the possible anagrams for Clive Palmer’s new party, Trumpet of Patriots. I particularly like Soft Muppet Traitor, and Muppet Fart Risotto. But do find your own.
