Over 100,000 people are marching through The Hague against Israel's war on Gaza. Wearing red clothing and forming a line, they are demanding the government draw a red line in its stance against Israel. It's the largest protest in the Netherlands in 20 years.

Here is the grad speech that NYU is now withholding the student's diploma for: "As I search my heart today in addressing you all…the only thing that is appropriate to say in this time and to a group this large is a recognition of the atrocities currently happening in Palestine."

The witch learns from the land. The witch learns the land. She knows where its songs are sung loudest, the finding of its thousand thresholds. Her tongue is made strong from speaking its occulted names. Its secret languages are tattooed on her bones. – #Emily C Banting, 1982 #WitchSky

It’s a big NO from me to AI audiobooks, for all of the reasons below.👇 Much of this applies to the replacement of translators with AI too. Just no!!!

‘Rip-roaring fun’ - thanks @patchworkbunny.bsky.social! I like tropes, and I’m always interested thinking about what kind of person would try to embody a trope.

How can we hope to be moved from a voice that cannot itself be moved? How can we feel the nuances of joy and suffering from the voice of a machine that cannot experience joy, and cannot suffer? Storytelling is what makes us human. If we cede our humanity, we are lost.

Thought for the day.

So. AI audiobooks. Thing is, sharing stories is one the oldest human activities, a truly beautiful thing, and I don’t understand people who think AI can bring anything to the table… 🧵 1/7

Starving & bombing civilians —Israel should not be able to continue normally in the family of nations. They are barbaric. Speak out. It is not antisemitism to speak out against genocide. www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

My EXCITEMENT at receiving these Choose Your Own Adventure Books, a beautiful blast from the past brought back by Pushkin Children’s! I LOVED these when I was growing up. #KidLitUK @pushkinchildrens.bsky.social

Fantastic ending to Baroness Kidron's speech in the House of Lords yesterday, which led to the government's defeat on AI & copyright. Speaking the UK's creators: "Their property, their labour, is worthy of your protection - because apart from anything else, it is not ours to give away."

I've just signed this Freedom Flotilla petition calling for an independent investigation into the bombing of the Conscience and an end to Israel's siege of Gaza - will you sign, too? actionnetwork.org/petitions/al...

Had a lovely time sitting down with @lucasjmaxwell.bsky.social to chat all things Welsh myths and writing the Vivi Conway saga. Check out our gabbing here! podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/e...

I follow miss rachel and she’s just saying “stop killing kids anywhere” and this headline construction is a real failure at sticking your head out the window and seeing if it’s raining.

A king and his army are said to sleep under Grianán of Aileach & can be summoned only when Ireland is in it’s direst need: a woman must light four fires, one north, one south, one east & one west, then they will charge forward to set the country free. #IrishFolklore courtesy @tuatha.ie 🤓

I absolutely loved this book. (And I feel quite smug that I got the joke in Hilly's name right away - it was like having my nerd credentials validated.) @philipreeve.bsky.social fans, if you haven't tried this one yet, you're in for a treat.

Good news - may there be much more!

The brilliant Paddy Donnelly published this gorgeous picturebook, Badger Books, with @theobrienpress.bsky.social this week. It's truly gorgeous, packed full of rich detail and heartfelt storytelling, and one my family already loves. Congratulations to everyone involved with this lovely story!

Delighted that @oeiny.bsky.social 's lovely Traveller stories have been adapted for a show at this year's Galway Arts Festival. An all-Traveller ensemble

So grateful to my pals at Gill Books, and to @leonaforde1.bsky.social and Karen Harte, for this advance copy of MILLY MCCARTHY'S WILD ATLANTIC ANTICS! Out on May 22nd, it's a sure-fire smash hit. I adore Milly and all her antics - can't wait for this!

And if you haven't had enough of me, I'm appearing AGAIN at @ilfdublin.bsky.social, alongside Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick and @sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social! ilfdublin.com/whats-on/fes...

Next week, @ilfdublin.bsky.social gets started! Among the many (MANY) brilliant events is this one... A live Storyshaped podcast recording! More info and tix here: ilfdublin.com/whats-on/fes...

Honestly, AI has made people lose their minds.

A fabulous introduction to women’s history for 9+ readers, Heroines of the Ancient World by Honor Cargill-Martin, illustrated by Margaux Carpentier, is out now and I loved it 🥰 @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social worldssmallestlibrary.wordpress.com/2025/05/08/h...

Much like misogyny, they really want to push the idea that it's 'already solved, nothing to be done, can't change it now' because that means they can just keep getting away with AI theft. Ursula LeGuin's 'divine right of kings' quote comes to mind.

So pleased to have received this amazing proof package from Rachel Chivers Khoo, Laura Catalán, and the team @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social. So looking forward to reading Finders of Silverthorn Forest! Thank you!

This is a great chat about looking at Irish mythology through a feminist and multicultural lens, where Ellen picks out some lesser known and often badass female characters (I’ve always wanted to know Scáthach’s story), and discusses how Catholic monoculture deprived us of some absolute treats.

At the ICJ this morning Blinne Ni Ghralaigh catalogues Israels violations (and defiance) of international law.

Today's the last day for EARLY BIRD tickets for the upcoming @irishkidsbooks.bsky.social Symposium, on June 21st! If you fancy coming, grab a ticket today. www.eventbrite.ie/e/discover-i...

I'm delighted to receive @hsnorup.bsky.social's new book ahead of its publication in August - huge perk of the job! Thanks so much to Helle and her team @pushkinchildrens.bsky.social for giving me an early peep at Saga and Alfred's next adventure. Art by Thy Bui. #TheChangelingChild
