I'm hyper critical of museums because I work so closely with them, but as spaces where you can go and literally just 'hang out' with ancient history they truly are unique. Feeling down? Go sit next to an old pot/fossil/painting. It won't necessarily solve anything but it's still very grounding.

It is so cool that both Chinese and Latin #calligraphy have a hierarchy of scripts, and it works the same way. A piece starts with older/slower scripts, and finishes with younger/faster scripts. 1/n

A friend clearing out old scrolls belonging to her late parents let me have this one by Yu Youren (!). Yu, several times jailed between 1906-1911 for starting revolutionary newspapers, wrote out this Li Bai poem for my friend’s grandfather, also a newspaper publisher, between 1949 and 1964.
